Ben, good to see you're back.  I look forward to fishing the Monterey Salmon with you Wednesday.

I'm aiming for Thursday too. I may have a work excuse, we'll just have to see if the boss man takes the bait!

Best launch from coast guard or Lovers.?

I was planning on Lover's point, but it doesn't really matter.

Now where's the fun in that?  :smt006

Martin, the new handle is *perfect*

Looks like a great group for both days!

Wow Ben. Haven't seen you in a month of Sundays. Welcome back!

Thanks, it's good to be back. Saturday was soooo nice, I really missed it.

Hope all has been well with you. Were all the loose screws at GS6? My youngest's college graduation conflicted with it. I just couldn't buy a break this past year fishing wise :smt011  Looking better for the near future though.

This is too good to pass up. I'll launch wherever you guys decide, MBK, Lovers, CG or...
Just post it.

Where is the best place to launch from, and where to park?

I've only fished once in Monterey and that time I launched from MBK. Where are "Lovers" and "CG"? Thanks.

Lovers point is the closest paddle to the red can. There is free parking there if you get there early enough; like o'dark thirty. It is south past the main tourist area in monterey and is in Pacfic Grove.  If you have a GPS in your vehicle you can input it there nand it will get you there.

It is an up hill paddle back to it if the wind kicks up as well as the kelp. But it is an easy launch

"CG" is the Coast Guard station, which is located at the west side of the harbor. Also known as San Carlos beach. There's a good size public lot (pay) and another easy launch.

Both the Coast Guard station and Lover's Point are easy launches. There's maybe a 100 yards of kelp to paddle over at Paradise. On the other hand it's closer to the red can, and there's a spot in between that was yielding quite a few fish last Saturday. I've also read some accounts of Ling Cod being caught around the point if salmon don't work out. It was a cardio-peddle back last Saturday (I was considerably East of the Red can when I started) in the wind, but if forecasts hold Wed, especially, should be pretty calm. On the other hand, the CG launch is *really* convenient.

Sorry you can't make it, Martin. As for next week, I don't think I can take that much time off  :smt009

Trying to get logistics worked out on a rental yak.  If it works out, I'll be at San Carlos Beach launching at 5:30 Thursday.

I'm choosing San Carlos because on google earth there looks to be no stairs. Lovers is awesome until you try to pull you yak up the stairs.   I'd rather pay the parking I guess.
