Hey all, was just wondering, if & how your FF might be used to warn of an impending land lord visit.  The FF is our only "Eyes" under the surface.  I know my Cuda 250 has depth (Shallow) alarm setting, I understand the landlord knocks on our doors pretty hard, but I'm wondering if perhaps the FF depth setting may be used?
If you know your in 100' of water and your FF depth alarm goes off unexpedely, something big has to be under you at that moment right?   (Just thinking on the keybord at the moment.) If this could work, I guess it'd depend on where the trnsducer is instlled, how it views (It's cone) and the shark would have to enter the FF cone of view inorder to trigger the depth alarm.

I know from the numerous attacks that have happened while I've been on this site, that there was no warning befor the hits (As expected from the sharks mode of operation)  Most of us have FF's installed and I got to wondering if we can use our FF to maybe give us  alittle warning?  I got this thought on the road today heading to SJ airport, on way to Portland for a week.

I doubt it cause my Lowrance HDS 5 will show a big "V" when something large like a sea lion is underneath so maybe a shark would show something similar, but the depth alarm isnt going to go off because of a shark.

Nice thought, but the landlord doesn't knock, he just kicks the door open.

A few years ago I was at the doc for a routine physical.  My memory (or lack thereof) was really starting to worry me and I mentioned it to him.  His comment stuck with me (guess the memory isn't so bad after all), What he said was, "we have some tests that might let you know what's going on but there's really nothing you can do about it, so ""do you really want to know?""

I had Nathan swim under my FF when we were out diving yesterday and it read as a school of fish...

For the FF to "view" anything as the bottom, it would have to cover the entire diameter of the cone. any holes in that would show as something betwixt it and the 'Bottom"

In theory it should work.but from what shark week has shown it's kinda like hearing the gun go off befor you feel the pain.my ff goes off when the front of it swings towards the shallows.I'll look for shadows if I'm in 50 ft of water and my shallow alarm goes off.thanks for bringing that up never thought about it that way.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

a whale will set off the depth alarm on my humminbird 565, I learned this at Shelter last July when one came to investigate me and the "ground" went from 220 to 9, 6, 4, 15, 220 and it surfaced about 40 feet from me as I was wizzing...  Really cool, but scary as hell...

Wow so then it would work.well that's if the shark is just cruising underneath investigating.
