Hey,
I have a garmin etrex. Its just a bare bones GPS but works well.
I've gotten a lot of promising waypoints ever since I've started marking them.I beleive I picked it up for about 70 at sports authority when it was on sale. No maps or anything like that but it will get you to the waypoints you marked within 10 feet.
Its cheap and gets the job done. And its waterproof!
Hope that helps.

Mine is the 550 t. T is for terrain. It shows topo. Great fot hiking.   Works real good at sea level   (water is shoen shaded  so change the background to save battery) You can get additional maps for certain areas on chip. Roads for driving is good not great. Its accurate and all just not as flashy as iphone or more car orientend models.  Great interface and useability. Small compact. Add a float.   It is pricy.  Worth it i think.    I advise rei. Fantastic returm policy.   Does not work in italy  Well it works. But there is no map.  But by creating waypoints and referencing a map you can get.the jist. Hope that helps.

I use the Garmin 36cx works great btu can't wait to upgrade to combo unit. Just noticed that when I had my Lowerance 5x it was not as accurate as my hand held.

All the Garmins have similar accuracy. I own a Garmin 60 CSX actually the second one. The Garmin blue chart maps are good and have all of the SMR and SMCA boundaries outlined which is really nice when you are fishing next to a SMR. I was fishing point Pinos a few weeks ago and tried to line up the way points for the Asilomar SMR and wasn't even close to predicting the boundary. Yeah they are way overpriced but really useful OTW. The most important thing is to back up your way points so if your unit dies you don't lose everything.

Just curious, why not use a FF/GPS combo? Are they not as accurate as a handheld?
