I wonder if the letter writer is referring to Venice pier in San Francisco or Venice Beach in SoCal.

Maybe drip a hot wax seal around the cap so it stays dry inside.

There is also a Venice Beach just a few miles South of Princeton Harbor.....which has some good shore fishing as well.

Cool post Joel.  One time while surfing up in Salt Point I found a beat up cloisonne vase on the beach. I thought it was full of sand but when I looked at what was left inside I could tell it was somebodies ashes and some kind of necklace. I just threw it back into the ocean.

I did something like this with balloons when I lost my son. Put notes inside the balloons before filling them and sending them off.
