Ok so ive been shopping around and ive came to a few conclusions and made two solid choices on what to buy. Im in the market for a great fishing/dive platform and I need advice once again. Went to santa rosa wind toys yesterday and checked out what they had. Im stuck between a rock and a hard place with my choices. Im purchasing 2 kayaks one for my girlfriend and one for myself. For me im choosing between a 13' Hobie quest 2012 model and an ocean kayak T13.... I need some pros and cons here. For her im looking at the 11' hobie quest and the T13 aswell... Im commited to buy now and trying to keep the cost low as possible with the best bang for my buck... I do know Hobies are the best of the best but how would I fair with the T13's? Cost difference is almost 1000 for the two options so I figured you all could push me one way or the other. As a whole I trust ncka members to have the best info for me seeing as we all share the same waters... Thanks fellas... forgot to mention im buying one way or the other on monday.....

Hey Jason,

I've never tried a Hobie so really can't help there, but I love my Trident and think the rod pod hatch is GREAT for storing long fins and gun and fish etc....

I think you will be happy with the Trident, will save big $$, and it is a super versatile, stable diving and fishing platform that allows you to easily stash all your gear for rougher launches and landings.

Best of luck!!

Jim

I would think as long you help her with carrying/loading the yak it would be fine for her...I find them easy to paddle, and if you get her a nice comfy seat she should be all good out there...but I am by no means an expert and my wife has so far refused my invites to come out on the water with me... :smt009

Hopefully some other guys chime in with their perspectives/experience as well!

the quest is a paddle yak. The real plus fro a hobie is the mirage drive (range and hands free fishing). I have a hobie revo and T13. based on what you plan on using it for I'd opt for the T13. This is assuming they fit is good. Also you can get your hands on a used T13 WAY simpler then a hobie (esp a quest).

I can't say for a woman, but I would recommend the T13.  Great for all the reasons stated in previous similar threads, + a rodpod! My main ocean fishing yak is a Hobie Adventure, but for diving, my T13 is king! Tracks well, fast, plenty of tankwell space, and a rodpod to store gun, pole, uni, the 4th abalone... JUST KIDDING!

Peace!
Down to 1 Hobie Revo...

It's the Hobie mirage drive kayaks that hold their value, not so sure about the paddle ones.
Have you seen more Quests or T-13s?
Look around here at who paddle what. That should help you out a lot.

I just looked at a picture of a quest online...I say T13 no doubt!

So easy to get fins and gun out of rodpod...don't gotta scoot forward to front hatch and fish around for them or nothing.

Best of luck Jason!

Thanks again fellas. The deal I was getting either way was good but Im going to just make the decision after doing my own research and having all your advise and knowledge. It seems mor people paddle a T13 over the Hobie with the exception of the Mirage series which would be nice but is way out of my range. Seems also that the deal im getting on the 2 t13's is better than the 2 hobies... So Im thinking Im going to save my money for rigging and jump on the t13's for sure... Thanks guys... Im still open to hear everyones suggestions seeing im not buying til monday... bring it on  :smt044

Get her the T11 and you the T13 that way you got a nice river boat too.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Back a few years ago, one of the things I didn't notice on the Quest was the lack of rocker, (or upsweep at the bow and to a lessor degree the stern).  What I was told by a respected member was that the Quest was a great lake boat but not as versatile as a boat with more rocker in the salt and any other bumpy waters.

I love my T13, I'd like a 15 but the overall storage and off the water handling stopped me at the 13.

i have a hobie, but if your not getting one with the mirage drive i would get something else.hobie's are popular because of the mirage drive.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I'm a Wilderness guy, but if the Hobie does not have a drive, why pay the extra money? I would get the T13 or 15, or look at a Tarpon 120 or 140. The longer the yak the better it will track and paddle. I would not get the 11 for her. She will paddle in circles and not keep up with you at all. My wife paddles a T160 with no issues.
