OK... so I haven't been fishing since we had the baby.  But I have been able to find a few minutes here and thee work on upgrading my rigging on my kayak.  Here's my project list... pictures of each item are included.

1.  Installed new fishfinder on Scotty universal fishfinder mount.
2.  Made waterproof battery box for my fishfinder battery and a mounting system so it is secure inside the hull during heavy surf landings.
3.  Made a wireseal that will allow my FF cable to be pushed into the hull and sealed with a cap for wild surf landings (inspired by Insane Duane).
4.  Installed a RAM Tube rod holder.
5.  Install a gear restraint system inside the hull to prevent items placed below decks from sliding out of reach.

1.  Fishfinder installation:

Since I already had a scotty rod holder mounted on my kayak, and I never have liked the placement of it, I figured I'd use that location to mount my fishfinder.  This location is much better than my old placement (center of the yak) because the fishfinder will no longer be clobbered by every big fish I slide up onto my deck.

2.  Waterproof Battery Box

I found this waterproof box at Target and added a wireseal from West Marine to allow the cable to run through it and be totally waterproof.

3.  Homemade wire seal (ala Insane Duane)...

This wire seal allows the fishfinder cable to be pushed completely inside the hull and the the fitting capped with an alternate cap.  I thought this would help save my electronics by stowing them for heavy surf landings.

4.  RAM Tube Rod Holder

I'm quite impressed with how robust these rodholders are.  My only concern was the relatively small surface area of the mounting bracket, so I fahsioned a backing plate from 1/4 inch delrin to make it more secure on my deck.

5.  Gear restraint system

I installed four of these pipe mounts onto the inside of my hull with marine goop and ran 1/8 inch shock cord through them to create a permiter so that my supplies can't slide beyond reach when I'm in the water.

Looks great.  I really need to re-rig my boat...

1.  Need to get on of those wire seal things.  Right now I have my cables going under my front hatch (tupperware style).  If I roll, it is likely my hatch will pop off...  Disaster!

2.  Where did you get that universal FF mount?  I was looking for on for my PiranhaMax (looks like the same size footprint).

I got the RAM Tube and the Scotty Fishfinder Mount at Hook 1 Kayak Fishing Gear http://www.kayakfishinggear.com

I made an adapter plate out of plastic to accept my fishfinder mount.

Great way of making use of your down time! Like the pics and explanations. Did you mount the tranducer on the inside?
Looking forward to trying some of your ideas.
