A friend and I will be in the Trinidad area this weekend.  Stoked to see the wind should be down!  I'm not sure whether we'll be wanting to target salmon or just go for bottomfish.  Probably a little of both  :smt003.  I think we're hoping to do an early morning fish on Saturday.  Friday's either gonna be an afternoon paddle or shorefishing in Humboldt Bay for leopard sharks.

So, if any NCKAers want to hook up in Trinidad this Saturday...lemme know!  I'll have my laptop with me to check email.

At this point, I think we will be there Friday (Thursday night) for a one day trip. :smt006 Need to be back Saturday.

I just talked with my buddy, he said he's pretty much hell-bent on doing some rockfishing Friday morning near Flatiron.  I'll probably head out there later in the morning.  Are you going to go for salmon or rockfish Doc?

Hope to hookup Saturday first light - we should run out to 120' for a salmon try and work back in if you want.  Some bigger fish have been caught at Trinidad lately.

I can't guarantee I'll be able to go.  LOW on WAF right now...   :smt003

Salmon are still hitting the decks of kayaks. I got 1 and a LCKA member busted his cherry with a limit today.

I would love to go for the salmon; however, I am not confident without one of the Lost Coast experts.  :smt001 Anyone going out for salmon on Friday morning? If not, I will probably just hang between Flatiron and the head. I just do not have the experience yet to be comfortable, especially when bring my son. There is something about that... Perhaps we will get lucky. :smt006

Luck can be involved, but doing the right thing at the right time in the right place is more of it.  You know the routine, Dave - get those chovies or herring down there and anything can bite.   :smt001

Hi Eric, and thanks to your great advice I feel comfortable enough to hang in close and fish...a huge thank you. :smt001; however going out two to three miles without experience is beyond us. I remember the halibut search out a few miles and feeling like I was turned around in the fog and you knew exactly where we were. :smt001 Perhaps a few salmon will come in close.

With a forecast like this its hard not to go to the Cape because those days are limited.  Maybe a couple times a year it gets really flat out there.  When it is its nonstop action.

Tonight: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming SSE around 6 kt after midnight. A slight chance of showers before 11pm. . Wind waves 1 ft or less.

Saturday: S wind 5 to 9 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt in the afternoon. Showers, mainly after 11am. . Wind waves 1 ft or less.

Im going even if its going to be a solo run.  I want to fill the monthly rockfish quota for Kayakwars and maybe ling cod too with good potential to upgrade my AOTY ling and get another trophy point ling.  I WILL REMEMBER TO BRING MY CAMERA WITH CARDS so I get get some good porn and videos too.

Cape forecast changed to Today: S wind around 7 kt. Showers, mainly after 8am. . Wind waves 1 ft or less.
I dont want to fight the south wind even though it says 7kt.  Trinidad forecast is better Today: Variable winds 5 kt or less. Showers, mainly after 8am. Mixed swell...W 3 to 4 ft at 11 seconds and WSW 1 ft at 8 seconds. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Plus I can bring my salmon mojo with me a hopefully we can do a group salmon photo at the beach with Clayman, Dr.Dave, and their friends all holding a salmon or 2 each.

Time to get off this damn laptop and see what the ocean brings us today.  This one day of rest without fishing has me ready to do some serious paddling.  Im starting early so maybe a 20 mile day with a halibut in the mix.  I have extra butt juiced soaked salmon bellies as well as extra salmon gear.  Just give me a shout out on channel 78.

Good stories coming soon........ see ya later or see ya otw :smt001

Thank you for the wx report. We headed back home last night to Redding. My son works today. :smt010 I actually feel like I could go another round of long distance paddling today ...perhaps not 20 miles :smt001 Tight lines to everyone out there! :smt006
