Just looking at it from a fathers perspective. No staying in a foxhole when a wounded Marine needs you.

He could work his way up thru the ranks and become a Warrant Officer (instead of a mustang).  Enlisted and Officers listen to Warrants(been there, done that type of person) .  If he likes the Navy he may stay for 20 or more years and retire.  I did 24 in the Coast Guard and retired as a Warrant.

Quit sniveling butthole! Worst things then being a Grandpa at 43.  He's a good kid and will make his way.
Besides his choice in women puts him way ahead of the old man.... You did a good job with your bunk mate. Say hi for me.
