All branches of the U.S. military can be a good place for many young people. I bet he'll be fine. I bet you know that. Tell him we say thanks for his service to his country.

Hind sight is 50/50, but one of my biggest regrets is not going into the service, I feel like I wasted a lot of time and money working my way through school, he can be in the navy and have a wonderdul career and retirement, or get out and go to college as a mature man who knows what he wants.  I think its a win win. You should be proud :smt001

Dude, we have a couple of things in common. I'm almost 43 and also have a 21 year old son. He wants to join in the service as well but after meeting a girl, it is on hold for now.

This is awesome! Sometimes our kids don't follow our lead but in this case I can tell how proud you are and rightfully so. My son did the same thing so I really do know :smt002. Congratulations to all!!!

I worked at NSA for a several years, and I had the privilege of working with a lot of military people. If your son ever gets the chance to do some work at Ft. Meade, he should definitely take advantage of it.

I'm now a college professor and most of the best students are the ones who have been out for a few years and gained some real-life experience. It sometimes takes them a while to get back into the swing of studying, but they know what they want and they have a maturity that very few college freshmen (or seniors, for that matter) can match. So, if you son decided to leave the military and go back to college in a few years, that's a great option too.

Your son could have done a lot worse. :smt001 The military is really a great decision in the long run for many reasons. Thank your son for his service and when he's half way around the world on a ship send him stuff. :smt003

Sounds like a good path to me...
I spent nearly 10 years seeking, before I figured out my path, and finally landed back in college. College doesn't help much if you haven't already done The Big Search

Sounds like he learned to make decisions and follow threw... serving in the navy will give him a solid base to start from. The gi bill is an amazing benifit. It can pay for school and get them into a house purchase affordably. Love his chosen sweethart. Make her welcome and accepted.  Grandchildren are great!!! As with others here, thank him for his sacrifice and service to his country.
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

The navy survived my son. He just finished school at Yuba and is going to Chico this year. Very hard working, proud of him.
