Well the bad news first.  I don't get to take my kayak. :smt012

The good news is I will be someware that I have always wanted to go.  I have a job this summer in ketckican Alaska working at a fishing lodge. :smt003 I will be there from June 10 through the beginning of October.

I have never been to Alaska but from everything I have read and all the people I have talked to It is the place I want to be.

I would like advice on what I should bring with me Besides good rain gear good boots and deet.  As far as fishing gear is there anything that is hard to get up their that I should take with me?  As far as rods I think I'm taking a 9' mooching rod and a 7' fast action graphite inshore rod with 30# power pro an a 20# mono leader for jigging for salmon and rockfish.  Do you guys think that would be appropriate for salmon jigging?  what kind of jigs should i take?

I worked in AK, and it will be a life forming sumer for you.  Enjoy it, I can't wait to take Jelly up there.  Coastal AK is nice, I worked in the interior, and while spectacular too, man it has a tough ass place to be at times.  Bring a good pair of binos, you are going to see stuff that needs further checking out.

Dude, Alaska is awesome.  I have been there many times, and I can not wait to get back up there (might actually squeeze in a trip late summer).  Bring lots of film (or memory).  Be sure to avoid laughing and poingting at the locals.  Have fun!

Here's my favorite jigs for salmon in WA- should work well in Alaska, too.

BuzzBombs and ZZZinger lures: http://www.buzzbombzzinger.com/ I especially like the new "magic finish"

Point Wilson Darts: http://www.dartjigs.com/

Good luck! If I were you, I would look up Howard McKim while I was up there, too.

Is that the Lackanookie Lodge?? :smt008
Unless you have access to rods and reels, take more than two. You can burn out a reel or break a rod real easy up there.
I have never been, but my best friend guided up there. He now runs the federal fish hatchery in Winthrop Washington.
He was adamant about a GREAT pair of waders. Also a GREAT set of rain gear. Do not skimp on the top, you can always use the waders for the bottoms.
It's not like you will be up there for just the weekend, so get quality gear. You actually save in the long run.
We will all expect nothing less than photos galore. I envy you.

Shoot me a PM explaining who you are and what you'll be doing. I'm kind of hooked up with a network of folks in SE that might be able to help you out. One thing you'll find, is that while Alaskans gripe some about DSMFers, on the whole they are some of the friendliest, most helpful people in the world, especially if you don't cop an attitude.

Regards,
Scott

Have fun patrick. Don't forget to use caution out there, all your built in alarm bells won't be tuned for that location.
