I will be building a phenix next if I ever have the money. :smt044 Any expierence with the lighter phenix rods like say an 8-15# class? Also what type of thread and finish do you prefer? I use gudebrod and diamond 2 and am a little unsatisfied with the d2 due to cracking on a few rods at the guide feet.

I built a rainshadow RX6 10-25# that I really like. Infact the rainshadow replaced my 6' grafighter as my light jigging rod and I have nailed quite a few nice fish on it and it has done real well. I think the topless mermaid sticker on the rod is key. :smt003

If you get down to SCAL there are lots of stores where you can examine their production rods. In the 8-15# class I think the Black Diamond would be the blank of choice for what we do. The Abyss is more of a sardine/tuna off shore  rod than an inshore rod. The Black diamond is closer to the rain shadow which you like. The abyss is a big pelagic rod but less suited to light inshore use. Just my 2 cents. The blanks are high quality equal to seeker and cal star but their specs aren't as accurate.e

I built a cal star 700 ML, with the topless Mermmaid for SF Alex and he has been killing it.

Yeah definitely an offshore rod more than an inshore rod. I use it for tossing swim baits for lings but offshore it excells.

Nice Work!  I have a great source down here in SoCal that will ship.  BC Distributing.

Working on my "mancave" and a wrapping station is part of it.  I have a bunch I need to build.  I bought out someone getting out of wrapping so I have a good sized bin of thread, eyes, etc.

Don't know if you remember me, I was the SoCal guy on the Islander trip a couple years back that talke to you about my frequent trips to the bay area for my son's foot treatment.  You helped me out when I rolled when trying to unplug my bait tank.

Yes I do remember you. Hunter must be a big boy now. I am also several rods behind right now. Currently working on a Lamiglas Kayak rod which I bought on closeout. Thanks for checking in.
