I am not sure if there are any northern pike in your area,  but I am lucky enough to have a small river about 1/4 mile from my house that holds quite a few.  It's close enough that even if I have an hour to kill,  I can be on the water in under 5 minutes.  So needless to say,  I know the river very well.

When the conditions are low and clear,  I do best,  but yesterday the conditions were not great,  but I wound up landing 6 pike all between 20 and 30 inches, until I landed this monster.

I would say that I have caught about 70 so far this year and this one could be my biggest ever.  I am guessing close to 20 lbs.  and about 44 inches.  (Not too far from the state record).

Strong work. I grew up and lived in NJ for 30-years before "going west". Never caught northerns there but did catch a few pickerel and tiger musky. Looks like fun. When I first read this I figured you had a big striper from the Delaware or Navesink. Northern never crossed my mind. Word is Spruce Run has a bunch of big ones in the back bays now. Go have a slice of pizza for me...I really miss pizza...  :smt088

Just finished reading the short story "Old Croc", and open NCKA to see this thread. That's just what Old Croc would have looked like.

Nice catch!

Last time northern pike was found in California waters, the lake was poisoned to get rid of them. Lake Davis in 2007.
