The cook off is shaping up to be big than ever with every one bringing there A game. Any who just wanted to give you all an up date. This event is open to free divers only.
Current California Department of Fishing Game laws apply.
Donation Fee's are $40 if preregistered and $40 day of event. To receive a free shirt you must preregister. The pre registration for the free shirt will end on 7-1-12 after that you will have to purchase your shirt at the event very limited supply if any.All Divers are required to fill out and turn in a waiver form and show current CA. fishing license and current 2012 abalone tags at sign in.
All Divers are required to register with at least one dive buddy
The check in and measuring for the abalone for the event will be held at the Ocean Cove Campground 23125 Coast Highway One.
Diving can be done anywhere along the California Coast,                                                            All divers must return to Check out area by 2:00 pm, No exceptions.
Free diving Divisions Awards (plaques) will consist of:
1st, 2ND, 3rd for biggest Ab
Top Female biggest Ab
Top junior biggest Ab
Most Beach garbage picked up
Ab cook off.
Etiquette and safety:
The Ocean cove Big Ab comp promotes safe buddy diving and friendly competition.
All divers should be in contact with their dive buddy/ies while in the water.
Eligibility:
Signed Waiver form.
2012 California Ocean Fishing License and Abalone punch card and tags.
Disqualifications:
Any California Department of Fishing Game Violations.
Arriving at the check in area after 2:00 pm sharp.

All abalone will be measured and weighed and those 2 numbers will be added together for a total score on the ab and the person with the highest total score has the biggest ab. The event sounds great Matt and I hope you get a huge turnout!

I found out last week that I have my first two runs with Team in Training on 8/11 and 8/18...which means I will miss both the Albion Open and this event!

Can't get out of it either since I am a Captain on the Team this season and need to go mark the course for the other participants.

Hey all finally got time to sit down and do a write up of the event. What a day I have to start by thanking every one who attended with out you all coming out and competing it would not have been what it was so thank you. It is so rewarding to see our norcal dive community came together and have a great time. I would like to thank all the helpers that helped me make this event happen and those folks are, Donna and Stacey Stephenson with there help with the event and the designing of the shirt and picking them up, also would like to thank Bob Byers for all his help with the cooking and supplying the chilli as well as a few items for the raffle table. The sponsors were amazing as usual with there generosity and gave us a great raffle table. So thank you every one also I really want to say thank you to all of the member/brothers that chipped in and got the awesome gift of a gopro camera thank you so much was a real surprise and treat.

In all it was a great day with a ton of great people, we raised a little over 6k for Sonoma County Abalone Network and the Watermens Alliance which was split between the two each ended up with a little over 3k each to help fight for our rights as consumptive users of the ocean.
