That was the last year.  The 2009 models have the click and go system.

Both of my yaks have the older screw in system and have never had any problems with them.

Thanks for the heads up. I have a buddy that might be in the market for one soon. I'll let him know. BTW, can you remove it quickly for a beach landing?

for beach landing you can push on ( all the way) either pedal and the flippers go against the hull so you won't damage them.

To turn the knobs and completely remove the drive, I'd say it would probably take 10-15 seconds.  Although, I'll admit, I haven't had a scenario where I needed to get it out quick and therefore haven't actually timed myself.  The 10-15 seconds is just a guess.
