Has anyone fished/launched from this area before? From what Info I could find, the walk to the launch is a bit steep but really no big deal. The SwellInfo weather report for Monday looks OK. I need to get my fish on!

I've never fished around there and I've never seen anybody launch from there either. It's been a while but I think half the trail is stairs. It's a tiny cove

Used to fish the cliffs just south of there all the time.

There's a pretty nasty shore break on pretty much every single beach along the Sonoma Coast South of Jenner. I've been kayak fishing since '03 and have never once launched South of Fort Ross.

However, I've seen a few very flat days when launching was probably possible.

The problem with Duncan's is that a lot of "rogue" waves seem to come through there. You can count the sets, but for some reason Duncan's just has a lot of random, big waves come through that don't really fit the pattern. Many times I'd be fishing the ledge and a huge wave would come in out of nowhere and I'd have to jam up the side of the cliff or get crushed.

I'll try to dig up some pictures of the area.

I guess bottom line is that if the conditions are just right and you have surf launch experience it would be worth a shot.

Here's a pic of the cove on a calm day.

Wright's State Beach is just north of Duncan's.

I camped at wrights a couple years ago.  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=8672.msg76259#msg76259.

I wouldn't recommend launching any place in or around there if you are a newbie.  its ruff as hell to launch, and the landing is twice as bad.  But Duncan's is probably your best bet, b/c there's a little protection.

Make sure you have electronics or a compass.  From the water, the shoreline seriously looks all the same without a whole lot of distinguishing visual cues.  So even if you launch at Duncans you want to make sure you can get back to it.

Still trying to dig up some pics from my reports on PFIC. Most of them don't show the water because I didn't want to blow the spot up.....(at certain times of the year it is packed with various perch species)....but here's a quote from one of my reports I just read:

"The swells seemed a lot bigger than predicted and were coming straight in from the West. I had to keep a good eye on 'em because the sets were all mixed up and only every couple of sets had soaker waves in them. Made fishing a little sketchy, but I got good at telling which ones I needed to "run" from."

Here's another pic of the cove on a calm day. I have a ton of other pictures from the cove, but they all have straight cliff in the background...lol.

These pictures are pretty misleading as to what the normal conditions are there.

OK - here's a better pic of the cove, with the beach in the background. This was taken on a super low tide. At high tides some of the rocks in the background get submerged and cause very big breakers.

And just for kicks - here's the cliff shot.

Thanks for this post. I love going back and reading my old reports on PFIC!
