I'm headed to Cambria for a week to visit family and was wondering if anyone had any info on places to launch?  Any other tips about fishing in the area would be appreciated.

You can launch at Leffingwell.  It is off Moonstone Beach drive north of Cambria, just south of the State Park.  There is a concrete pad that takes you down to the beach, with minor to moderate surf.  Careful as there was recently a shark attack 150 ft off the beach there.

Spooners Cove is good down at Montana De Oro park surf willing.

San Simeon is good, you can launch off the beach by the pier.  The harbor has halibut, and you can head out to the kelp for ling cod and rock fish.

Check out Central Coast Kayak Fishing forum for tips, tricks and reports.  They have a good variety of fish.  I heard the WSB have been going through the kelp.  Normal lures will work, knife jigs, swim baits, scampis, shrimp flies, anchovies drug over the sand for Halibut, ect.

Good luck and I look forward to the report!

Matt

Matt pretty much summed it all up for you.

Leffingwell is by far the easiest launch in the area. Call it the boot scooter if you want. On nice days you can just sit down and let the swell come in and pick you up and paddle out.

PM me if you have any more questions.
