Can you guys post some pictures of how you have your Outbacks setup with FF, downrigger, and rod holders?  I'm trying to get some ideas of what works best before I go drilling unnecessary holes into my kayak.

Thanks Bret

ConGrats!!!

You will not be sorry you went new...  good for you!!!

As far as depth finders... I just like to have it on and let m know how deep it is or where the pinnacles are, etc..
do not have a hands on...

so, I decided to put in on the front hatch... out of the way and east to see, but if ya got to play with it..

then ya want to do something else...

ConGrats again...

Have a seat in it and think about where you would like stuff to be. Make sure what you need to get to is within reach.
Before you start drilling take it OTW and kind of pretend what you want is where you want it and see if that would actually work for you.
I know some guys ...ahem... who have put something where they thought was the perfect location only to discover it got in the way of their paddle stroke, or was out of reach when a fish hit, or cold not easily be removed from the rod holder when a snag occurred...etc.
Take your time. It's totally worth it.

Thanks guys!  Great tips.  I already took it for a test run on the water to get an idea where stuff needs to go in order for it to be useable, but I'm still unsure where to put the downrigger and FF.  Just trying to get ideas from the experts.

My 2 cents,
Mount the FF head unit in the sail mast tube, RAM mounts makes one for this purpose.
Water bath transducer install in the hull just in front of the mirage drive cavity.
Downriggers are a pain in the A$$, use a diving device like a Davis Fishseeker or a Deep Six much less complicated:smt002.
Scotty flush mounts on both sides  with Scotty rocket launcher rod holders.
Have fun riggin :smt001

Here are some questions when planning your rigging:
1. What are the target species?
2. Am I going to be peddling most of the time?
3. What side of the kayak do I want to land fish or climb back in?
4. Am I going to fish with my dog?
5. What distance is viewing a 3.5" display most comfortable?
6. If I an casting or flycasting, which direction would I be casting? Where would I strip the line?
7. Where am I going to store my ditch bag?
8. Where am I going to store my rods, net and lip gripper?
9. Where am I going to store my tackle and bait?
10. Where am I going to store my fish?
11. Do I want to mount my transducer shoot-through or in the water?
12. What areas of the hull can I reach from the hatches?
13. How much more weight could I add to the hull before I couldn't lift it?
14. How could I achieve my rigging needs without drilling any holes or adding weight?

Unless you plan  on sailing your Outback, I would go this route for the FF mount.  Works perfectly and is out of the way of your pedals  :smt002

Definitely will have to get that Ram Mount for the sail mast tube.
