Kayak Angler Magazine Receives Prestigious Honor

Kayak Angler Magazine Honored by Outdoor Writers Association of California

It's going to our heads already - we're good at this!

First came the Reader's Choice Award. We were proud of that. You like us, you really like us... And our efforts to cover kayak fishing, the greatest of all sports.

Now that some of the best professionals in the outdoor media business have weighed in, we're basking in the glow. The Outdoor Writers Association of California has bestowed a grand honor upon us, naming KayakAnglerMag.com the top website in the 2012 edition of the annual Excellence in Craft contest. Cool!

It means a lot. For one, it's a statement on the relevancy of kayak fishing. When mainstream writers and editors like what you do and admit it, you're doing it right. Try as we might, we can't cram the entire scope of kayak fishing into three magazine issues a year. We put tremendous energy into the website. There's tons of free, original, see it nowhere else content - the recognition is nice.

But that's not all. Kayak Angler contributor Allen Bushnell scored a big second place award in the hyper-competitive Magazine Feature category for his Spring 2011 story When the Hunter Becomes the Hunted. With unflinching honesty and not a bit of sensationalism, Bushnell examined a series of shark attacks on kayak anglers. He included no nonsense tips from shark experts that reduce the already miniscule odds of ending up on the business end of a great white shark. Bushnell knows his stuff. As of this week, his region of California has logged four attacks in the past six years. Congratulations on the recognition Allen, it's well deserved!
