My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I leash EVERYTHING to my kayak: rods, game clips, fish trough, pump. I put floats on everything else: crab guage, landing net. You only need to flip your kayak or see someone else flip theirs once to learn this expensive lesson.

^ There's a good thread on how to add flotation if you use the search function.

Would like to know where you bought your hog trough for $32.  That is expensive!  Have any pictures of it or a link from where you purchased it?

I bought a trough and glued some strips of closed cell foam to the bottom (floats great)and then decided to just put a 48 inch"fish-strip" sticker on the kayak and one on my paddle. I use whatever one is easier to reach and the paddle works great for "across the lap shots". Its white with easy to read black numbers and marks.  No issues with it staying on and one less thing to carry, lose or forget at home.  One inch wide and only $5 each.

For flotation, I use pipe insulation from home depot. Wrap around the rod and use zip ties to secure it. You can also use pool noodles. Possibilities are endless. You just need to be creative.

I have a measuring strip the ones that taylors use.when I went to Santa cruz on the dingy from the swells, trying to hold it down it's just too much, now I could imagine on a yak with very little space, that's why I decided to get one.been fishing since I was 10 this is my first before this I always used a tape measurer

Yep under the bungie cord on the Trident.

Cabelas has them

As far as prevention for losing it, foam rope cord for floatation as shown in the link below and a 1/8 shock cord with and s-clip carabiner attached to the kayak to keep it from floating away if it gets knocked over.

Big Sharpie.  Marks on the gunnel.  Even if I lost it, it floats.

This would work if I didn't buy the board already, but that is a great idea.if I ever lose or damage my board I'll do that

Leash the measuring board with a clip for the kayak then sharpie your name and you don't have to worry if it goes overboard while paddling or whatever you can retrieve it back to you easily.
