Bayside marina still thinks it is A Okay to depose of old fishing line in a trash can.. that's what I was told when I ask about a line recycling tube!!..This does not sit well with me but it is not my establishment...What I can do is ask that whenever any of you go in Bayside marina Santa Cruz please make a point to ask about it and let them know  the negatives of throwing line in the trash... maybe the point will sink in with repeated reminders..just a thought
....Anyone know the location of a line recycling tube in Santa Cruz??

I will be the first one to say I am all for recycling, with that said, unless there is a tube present, few people will go the distance to turn in their old stuff.  What would it take to get a tube out there might be a better question?

I believe West Marine has one inside their store in S.C.  Actually, when I worked for W.M., any of their stores located near fishing or had a fishing section, carried a fishing line depository box.  Just an FYI, not a plug for W.M. since I put in my 10 years and moved on.

I thought the point of those tubes was to keep the old line out of the water. Can it be recycled into useful products?

I  striped all the line off about 45 bass reels .....As a bank beating bass angler I have seen  how little line it takes to inflict a miserable unnecessary cruel  death  on  a bird, ..
it is a sad sight when you see one struggling in a tree and know it can not get away , it all could have easily been avoided if a fisherman just acted slightly responsible ...A hard way to take the trip to Chicago , tied up in mono starving to death for a few days , ..So I will go out of my way to prevent that if I do not  then  that makes me " just another A hole"....just saying..

Whenever I remove the old line off my reels I wind it up like you would a coil of rope, then cut through it with a knife or scissors twice so it's not long enough to entangle any animals. You basically end up with a crap load of 6 inch pieces of line. I always dispose of it in the garbage afterwards because I didn't know it could be recycled. Does it actually get re-purposed when you take it to WM or do they just dispose of it in a responsible manner?
