Arrived at Browns Ravine around 7:15am. Backed the trailer down the bank to the water, stepped in dog poop.

First cast into open water…bam.. fish on. Landed a nice lmb. Not a bite for the next 2 hours.

Moved to another cove, hooked bass #2. This one was the largest of the day, 18”. He also had a crawdad in his mouth.

Moved west into the lake and found a rocky point. Made a couple casts and caught #3 and #4. I think #4 is a small mouth?

Wind picked up so I headed back, off the water around 11am. Loaded up, avoided dog poop, back home for in time for Mother’s Day.

#4 is indeed a smallie, and a nice one at that!

dude, if you can find live small 'dads, it'll be game on for sure.

We used to throw live crawdads in Lake Perris in Southern Cal and it's almost a guaranteed bite if you can put it in front of a fish.

Nice case of redeye on the smallie.  Does that mean its in spawn?

Nice job Al.
It was a toss up between Folsom and Sly park. Now I wish I went to Folsom.
How was the PB action on the Lake?

They are a great bait no doubt.   I use the lizard alot up here in clearlake, it has nice legs and great action..

ive been dying to use live hoppers though,  nothing like seeing a big bass swoop out of the depths to the top!.

I used crawdads in Shadow Cliffs a long time ago and caught some bass & catfish with em. I used to fly line it to the bottom - but the problem with that is that they tend to run for cover once they hit the bottom - so you need to keep pulling your bait around to keep it from hidding. But, the best way I found to fish crawdads is using a slip float. This keeps the crawdads from hiding cause they are suspended...and they seem to move/swim even more when they are off the ground - making them more visible to the predator  :smt002

Crawdads have always been my foolproof way of hooking finicky fish. If you hook them in the horn ( the pointy end of their head/face) you can work them realy slow and they also  have the tendacy to do their little backward scoot if you give them a twich.

How was the PB action on the Lake?

The SMB had the most fight in it. Must have jumped three times.

Turned out to be a nice day on the lake. The PB action was very light. They have the 5 mph limit on the entire lake. I think I saw one boat pulling a skier. A couple others powered up to cross the lake. That won't last long with this hot weather.

I hope to go again this Sunday.

Tote: Speaking of crawdads and Sly Park.... how is the crawdad population and clarity of the water?  I think I'd rather eat them than feed them to the fish.

Sly Park is a bit murkey but getting clearer every day.
I haven't gone for crawdads there but there are plenty of rocks along the dams.
Sounde like a good way to beat the summer heat.
