Need new waterproof camera

Mine did not like free diving very well. Still won't work after almost a week of rice. What would you buy if you were doing it again?

Let's talk because I'm somewhat in the same boat.

What kind of camera did you have before?

Are you looking for a GoPro type of camera, or a point n shoot?

Point and shoot. I had an older Pentax WP. I like the new Pentax because it is very similar to the one I had. No learning curve. Anyone have a Fuji xp? On sale at Target for $169.

After doing lots of research, I bought the Pentax Optio W90.  What a great camera.  12.1 megapixels, 5x zoom, waterproof to 20 feet and big-time shock proof.  There's a couple youtube videos reviewing this camera and it's pretty compelling.  I clip it to my life jacket and don't worry about it.  My two cents 

I've got a Panasonic DMC-TS3.  Very well reviewed, and excellent high quality images.  I've only had it submerged a few feet since when I dive I use my Liquid Image mask with built in camera, but it is waterproof to 40 ft, shockproof dustproof freezeproof etc. and likewise very well reviewed.  It also has a built in GPS to record coordinates of where the pics are taken.  Pricey, but with the TS4 out now I bet you could find some good sales on it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have the Fuji xp. Never had a problem so far. If you're buying one, look @ Costco. They have them on sale sometimes. I believe I got mine for $120-130 @ Costco last year.

You can point and shoot with the GoPro.
You can take 10 stills in one second with it if you want. Video too.
Another great feature, the most impressive to me, is that when you take a photo what your eye sees is exactly what is in the photo.
I have never seen that in a point and shoot.

i love my gopro. the only thing that i hate about it is that it doesn't have a LCD on the back of it. I know you can buy one but it adds cost to the little camera.

You gotta get the LCD Bacpack for your GoPro.  I love mine and don't know how I used it without.  It eliminates those shots where your picts don't come out centered very well.  The extra money is well worth it.

Yes!  It actually comes with different housing doors so it can be waterproof or have the vented doors.

I have been diving and beating the crap out of my canon d10 for three years. Still have original battery even forget to wash it after salt . Gopro would be my next choice
