Shark Attacks Kayak Off Central Coast
Posted: May 13, 2012 4:58 PM PDT Updated: May 13, 2012 5:00 PM PDT

Cambria, Calif.- Cambria firefighters say a Great White Shark bite a kayaker's boat, throwing him into the water.

It happened off the coast of Moonstone Beach near Leffing Landing Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters say a group of kayakers were fishing when the shark bite one man's boat, pushing him into the water.

The shark's bite left a 24'' gash in the kayak, but the boater wasn't hurt.

Now there are signs warning swimmers about the shark sighting.

Ya,Nico. While there last week I looked around and thought "this is a sharky looking spot." But my spidey sense wasn't tingling.  All neck hairs laying flat.

No mention of the attack in this article. Is it the same incident?

I think it was 2 separate incidents. Not 100% sure tho.
Yikes. Too many sharks around so early in the season. Is this going to be our new "normal"?

Hmm, I never drove up to look, but I'd guess some of the elephant seals were home. Like Allen said, we never got "the vibe." I'd fish Leffingwell again, but probably stick close to a wingman.

It was two separate incidents.  The guy who was attacked, won the CCKA opening weekend tournament.  they were almost back to shore about 150 yds offshore, as many of you know that water is not very deep 150 yds out 20 to 30 ft.  it has been reported witnesses said shark came up straight underneath, breached, knocked him out of his kayak and then bailed.  CCKA has latest info links on their board. the guy did an interview with one of the local stations.

It was Joey. SC Allen and I fished with him, Anacapa Bob and other CCKF members the Sunday prior. So glad he's unhurt. It sounds very similar to the other three incidents.

Joey (Red hoody on the left) won the tournament with serious skills last week with a 6 lb. red.
He is the nicest guy and I wish him the best in his healing from the incident.
Be well Joey and it would be an honor to fish with you again when you are ready.

Thanks Bob!  I thought it might be him, the newspaper photo looked like a blue cobra, and I know that's his spot.

He must be a bit rattled.  I know I would be.

The outline of the incident is remarkably like the occurances up here, a bang, a bite, and then the shark splits.  So, another "investigatory" interaction most likely and thank god.

Allen
