Not possable.... even when it's at it closest orbit to earth , you cannot tell it's gotten larger.... by the naked eye.  When it's on the horizon, it's an optical ellusion that it looks larger.
hold up a ruler with outstreched arm and note it's width. Then go out when it's higher in the sky and it "looks" smaller, then re measure.  there will be no diffrence.

That sounds like a cool experiment, but the only thing I'm interested in measuring are some big ass fish. I thought it was interesting but now I see that its not. No one look up tomorrow  :smt012

A Super Moon is when it is at its closest point to Earth.

And according to the San Jose Mercury, it will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter.

Fishbucket is correct, to a point.  Only time the full moon will look "Huge" is when it's low on the horizon, rising.  It's then that the atmosphere will magnify it like a magnifying glass, because were seeing the moon through a longer visual path through the atmosphere.  As the moon rises, our view through the atmosphere is less the higher the moon rises.
This is why a full moon rising over the mountains seems to be really big.

It's got WSB written all over it. I'm taking some rental kayaks out to the lake tonight for a group that wants to see it while on the water.

Fishbucket is correct,

 Fixt it for you..   :smt003

That's what was taught in schools way back.  It is now exceped as an Optical Illusion, the reason the refraction theroy does not compute, is because the moon would look mis-shapen from the light refracting off the curved atmosphere water vapor/ magnifier.

 Here's another test.

Next time you see a large full moon at the horizon, turn around and bend over, and look at it thru your legs.
The brain will be confused and  the larger "illusion" will disapear.

I didn't get a picture but it looked huge form here as it came up over the horizon.  I looked at it later in the evening when it was higher in the sky and it was still really bright but didn't look nearly as large.  I guess that's the illusion issue being discussed on this thread.
