Anyone know of a reputable board shop that does repairs? I'm thinking of going to NorCal in Linda Mar but if there other places, I'm all ears. Thanks!

The board is made by Surf Tech and it's a 14-ft Bark Expedition SUP

I just opened a SUP shop in redding, first day was last Friday! That looks pretty bad, I have some repair patches but for that big of a gouge it's not going to look pretty. If a shop can't do it or will just epoxy it, look in to solar res. it's a resin mixture that cures in the sun in a few hours. It's not going to look pretty but you should be able to seal it up. Let me know how it turns out. I could always get you a new board with an ncka discount. My new race boards should be in next month, 14' Wai SUP fiber glass, or if I can get one a carbon fiber race board. I can get you any of the Other Wai SUP boards and bring them to gs6 too.

When I used to windsurf, I use to go to ASD in San Mateo (by Coyote Point), but I believe they've since closed.

Before that we use to repair them with "Marinetex" which we use to get at West Marine...

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Joel,

My friend Trudie owns the SUP Shack in the SC Harbor. She may have some advice/info/guidance.

http://www.supshacksantacruz.com/about/

She was at PIF 2011 to let folks use some of her boards to play around with after the paddle, and her daughter was one of our helpers when we were doing the raffle.

Good people for sure.

Dude, you should be more careful.

Confession time:

I did it.  There was a rock submerged on an otherwise sandy smooth strech of beach.   :smt011 :smt012 :smt013

Of course I will be paying for the repair...  If it can't be repaired I will buy it and duct-tape it.

There's also Covewater in SC.

I have used a solar cured resin for fiberglass repairs, and it worked like a charm. That was for standard board dings. It was a little kit as I recall.

Thats more than a ding though, I wouldn't plaster on sun cure or marine tex, its just gonna look ugly then crack again.  Then when you take it for a real repair the guy will look at you, shake his head and charge you more to repair it cause he has to clean up your mess and cause you're a supping kook  :smt003

Normally you'd cut away the cracks/delaminated area, sand, fill any voids then glass a patch over it.  I don't know about teh tuff lite boards, repair can't be much different though.  I wouldn't take it to a sup shop, find a real surf shop and see who they farm their work out to and then take it to that guy.

Thank you all for the intel. I went to HMB Kayak Co. today and spoke to Doug. He's done repairs before and I wanted to give him the business since they've been very cool (supportive) to NCKA. I should get the board back in a week or two.

Eric - no big deal, it's just a board. But Killer Kylo was not happy about the incident.....

Totally.  I can't describe the sinking feeling when I flipped it over and saw the damage. :smt010

I'm so sorry, Joel!  BUT, I'm stoked you found a guy who can fix it.  I will pay for the repairs and still always be in debt to you, my friend.

Lesson learned, get off the SUP before you hit shore.

I ENVY YOU!!!!! And thanks for the "bro-deal" offer. I used work for Aquan Sports and when we started carrying SUP boards, I tried it once and got hooked right away. A 14 foot carbon fiber race board would really be a dream come true. I just test paddled Ted / Golfish 12 ft. race board and liked it very much - I'd really like to demo a 14 footer sometime.  I will be at the HOW event instead of Shelter Cove. But I'd like to talk SUP with you sometime. I have a SUP page on my Facebook called "i.paddle". I'm not sure if everyone can see it or only my friends can see it. Friend me @ Joel Lotilla if you want to check it out.
