Anyway, I'm a total noob here and is new to the whole kayak fishing. I've been fishing for a long time and always been fishing off the bank and I know a lot of great spots and location.  I just got my kayak for little over 3 months ago used on cragislist. I've been watching so much YouTube video and was really fascinated with whole ocean fishing. I've been rigging up my yak from the past couple months with fish finder, more rods holder, trolley kit, milk crate and rod lease and went overboard with the whole DIY thing. I went all out crazy without even taking my yak out to the lake and getting the feel of it. I have no experience what so ever so I took it out last week to lake amador. It was really scary and I feel like the kayak will flip at anytime. Any tips or pointer from anybody would be appreciated.. I'll Probably take out the yak again this weekend to the lakes and just practice. I swear, people makes it look so easy on YouTube and I'm not ready for the ocean yet..!

Stability comes with time in the yak but some are more suited to fishing than others I am thinking of going in the delta by riovista Friday or saturday for stripers and sturgeon

Nice.. Me and my brother fish there all the time off the bank.  Usually early morning when high tide with jumbo size blood worm. I live in Vacaville and its about a 30 min drive to rio vista. What location do you launch off your kayak hallsworth?

Best piece of advice I can offer is to strip your kayak back down to stock, leave the fishing gear at home, and just go out for a nice paddle.  Remember that when yak fishing you are a kayaker first, and a fisherman second.  Once you are comfortable launching, paddling, moving around, reaching behind you and to the side, then you can start thinking about fishing from it.  It takes practice, but once you get the groove it becomes an extension of your own body.

Welcome to the madness!

Thanks for the advice beenfishin. I like that quote you have there. I once bought a t shirt for a girl when I was in high school. It say too many guys and too little time.. Boy she took it the wrong way and eventually just laugh about it later.. Lol.. Anyways, yep, that's what I was thinking about this weekend. Taking out the yak stripped to the lake for practic

My limited advise is this, please use your PFD.  When your comfortable getting around on your yak, and start bring stuff out with you, leash anything you don't want to loose!

Thank for the advice cccoYote and congrats on the 7 month kayaking.  After the kayak lesson, did you get the chance to fish out there in monterey bay. If so, catch anything?

I took the class with CCCoyote last Sunday and I concur with what he says. Invest the 99 dollars on this class before you venture out into the ocean. There is a hookup right now for this class this coming Sunday the 29th.

You will gain confidence, learn safety tips and gain some ocean experience while in the presents of a professional instructor.

Let me know if you need additional information.

WTTM Chuebaka.

You'll have lots of fun, camaraderie and tons of fishing events/information in NCKA.
Kayaking classes are very much recommended.
What I did before was just practice self rescue in my son's pool and I did it so many times that it became an instinct getting back aboard the yak.
Launching and landing, you just have to practice out in the ocean. However, try to avoid going out when the weather is not calm and always buddy up with someone. Safety first.
Congrats on your new ride and see ya soon otw.
