Wonder if they got a penalty or fine from catching a great white. Thought that was illegal.

Everything is legal in mexico.  My favorite part of the report was that the fisherman were in a 22' ship  :smt001

that's a big shark :smt001

19.8ft & 2000lbs :smt005

If it is indeed 19+ft it would weigh more than that I'm thinking....

Needed a bigger boat.

Good that it looks like the shark was bycatch and not intentionally killed.

Really want a fish taco and a corona right now for some reason.

Incidental or not, they should be heavily fined for killing a protected species...not glorified on all the news websites.

Despite the fact that white sharks are listed as endangered species in the Mexican legislation, there is yet no real protection of this species in the practice.

I 100% agree with you.  Unfortunately what passes for news these days is not news at all.

I still want fish tacos and a corona though.

When commercial fisherman here catch them incidentally they collect thousands for a live one and a couple hundred for a dead one....they don't get fined.  Why would it be different in Mexico?

Looks like an accident to me. It does, however, serve as an example of why drift nets should be banned.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Because they're Mexican, duh.

Just kidding.

They should be fined here, too. The little deal they have going with the MBA and little Ms. Packard is fucking stupid. If I could curb stomp anyone i wanted to, her name would be really high on the list.

I guess the line I'm giving the wife about needing to kayak fish Baja to avoid the GWSs at Bean Hollow  won't work anymore.  :smt009

i was told that the GWS that feed mostly along our Cal coast will be fatter/heavier than those which dont. One was netted once in SoCal, it died and was 17.5ft and weighed over 3,500lbs.
