Planning on launching out of Doran at 7:30-8 dropping crab cages and heading on a drift towards Dillion Beach.
Anyone game?

When did you guys fish? Sunday? Trolling or mooching? I havent seen fish in that close for a real long time. Especially this time of year.

We were trolling anywhere from just behind seal rock to about 1/4 mile out. Action was hot in the morning and settled a bit into the afternoon however we caught fish all day from 5am-5pm. There where quite a bit of boats out drifting aswell. Craziest thing Ive seen in a while was 2 guys in a 12' aluminum boat out there nailing fish just as well as other boats.

Don't tell the Party Boats they are all fishing 40/50 fathoms, if there are fish there they are inside the rock also.
Wondering why you fished 12hrs?? 5am is a little early for the guys in green.

Anyone make it? We are changing it to Friday Morning due to winds + swell which should drop a bit.

Good luck! I would go if i could get the time off. New to salmon fishing and been waiting to tag along with someone out at Doran. I will be out on sat/sun doing some crabbing and will bring my pole just in case i meet someone to fish for salmon.

I last went crabbing there about two months ago. I took five pots expecting to leave them for a two day soak due to the slow time of year. I spent hours spreading them out miles apart over the bay. Some of the pots were the heavy non-collapsable type so I can't get them all on my yak at the same time. When I got done I pulled the first one I set to find it full of crabs! :smt007 I was very excited until I realized they were almost all three to four inches wide. No keepers!

I realized I didn't want to come back in two days to pull pots full of throw backs(with chicken breath), so I spent the rest of the afternoon (wind) retrieving the pots. I did get one keeper in the last pot. Probably threw back twenty or so. I need to design a pot that only allows crabs of a certain size to enter.

If you go for crabs I suggest setting them as deep as possible(60+ fow). I've attached a depth chart of the bay.

Good luck,

Don
