Hey Sean,
It's a baby halibut. That's how the eyes are before they move over to the other side. Beautiful!

sweet! Thanks for the backup Joe, that is awesome. It is indeed a baby, as it is about half the size of the original norcali hali (which is now hanging at the home of local surf photographer Nikki Brooks).

The open studio show will be July 28-29th, so mark your calendars. I'll also post a reminder and a flyer as the date approaches. It was a blast last year. We will also have American Tribal Style belly dance performances courtesy of Calla Lilly Tribal Belly dance.

-Sean

PS: here a couple more teasers, since I got your attention! :smt044  these are Pac hali with herring, and Albie with Outer Bay companions.

Sean, LOVE the shark piece. If I got a wooden paddle, could you carve that shark into the paddle blade? We'll talk some more  :smt045

I could indeed :smt002. The carving I used to do was giving me carpal tunnel, so I have gone to using a wood burner for the detail work. All of the awards and such I have been doing for the last few years have been with this technique.

The show will actually be in our garden at my house. The plan is to have a garden trail with the artwork, pirate gazebo, and main stage. There is lots of parking in the immediate area, and we fit about 10-12 cars on our actual property.

I will be part of the local DoonArt 2012, which will feature a number of local Bonny Doon artists of all types opening their studios. There are illustrators, photographers, sculptors, and well, all kinds of stuff. We'll have a map and ad flyer ready in about a month. It worked well last year, because most of the studios are only 5-10 minutes apart. I'm right on the main road Pine Flat, so my place is the easiest to find-you have to pass it to get anywhere in the Doon. The show hours will be 11am-5pm both Saturday and Sunday July 28-29th.

Sean, I've admired your work for a long time and can't wait for the showing.  It's on my calendar.  I have lots of wall space!

That halibut with the herring is still my favorite.

You guys rule. thanks for all the nice comments.

My potential show list is now:
'whitey", "Risso's dolphin with squid", along with "king salmon and anchovies" from last year.
new pieces will be :
"baby hali", as shown on page 1
"Cali sheephead with clam, lobster, crab, and mussel"
"rockfish trio" of blue, black and verm RF
"Hull patch vermilion"
"Hibiscus SUP" (that's an SUP surfing out of a hibiscus blossom)

plus a few painted metal polynesian pieces.
Seems I ought to do a smaller version of the shark piece too. I'm considering a fishing set of a decorated billy and fillet knife, as well as another albacore or a white seabass ( :smt007).

You heard it here first! :smt003

Had some poplar plankage left over from AOTY, and whipped this little guy out. Looking at it the other day I realized that this is a rare one, with his eyes on the wrong side :smt044

Do you mean because it is a "righty" instead of a "lefty"?

Here is some pics of a righty and a lefty I caught from Berkeley pier in May of '03

That's so cool, pics don't lie. Thanks RH!
I didn't realize it until recently, when I drew the design I was just trying to get the fish to face right, as too many of my pieces end up facing left.
I figured I should to mention it before one of the more-learned guys pointed it out!
