Hello Everyone. I've been trolling this forum for a few weeks now and realize that I am long overdue in introducing myself. My name is Alex, and I am a teacher in the Pleasanton area. I am a longtime fisherman who just recently caught the yak fishing bug. Frankly, I no longer remember how I stumbled upon this group, but I'm more than pleased that I have.
My reaction to this group has grown from one of being pleasantly surprised to very impressed. Initially, my goal was to learn more about the sport and to hopefully find a good deal on what would be my first kayak. And I did accomplish both of those goals. But in the process of reading many, many posts and in purchasing my first kayak from member, Darius, I learned that this is a really good group of people who look out for one another. It was a bittersweet moment for me when I was able to nail down a good deal from a member of this group who, as it turns out, has hit a bit of a rough patch in his life. But the twinge of guilt I felt was quickly gone when he shared with me the kind offers of support that came from many of you on his behalf and his appreciation of that.
I'll not ramble on too long, but I do want to say that it's good to be a new member of this group, and I look forward to a long relationship with the members of this organization.

Welcome Alex!

Darius will be back one way or another. Teachers are special people and always add to our community. I also work in the tri valley as do many other NCKA. Shadow Cliffs is a good place to start. Pull a Rapala J7 firetiger around at 1.5-2 MPH and see what happens.

Welcome to the madness Alex. There's plenty of hookups happening so hopefully you can make it to most of them. Looking forward to fishing with you soon.

Welcome and thank you for the thoughtfulness.

Worth mentioning that almost everyone who's welcomed you here will see each other at the Gimme Shelter tournament in May - still hoping you can swing it, Michael.  :smt001

Anyway, nice to have you on board and maybe we'll meet at an event or hookup

Alex the kayak fishing bug is quite infectious and like me you will soon know that many of us are infected to the max and will be happy to help you deal with it.  Being a teacher hopefully you will have lots of free time during the summer when ocean fishing is at it's peak.  Watch for the hookups and don't hesitate to ask for information if you need it.  Hope to see you in the water soon!
