I'm so glad this got done before opening day.

Thank Brian Sabean for not being a money grubbing lame brain!!!  :smt006

With the new acquisitions we've made in the off season and Posey/Wilson being healthy I'm liking our chances at winning the west.

Go Giants!!!!

Anyone else at the game last nite? Was cold!
And the beers went up I think. 9.75 for a 12 oz Anchor Steam! 8.50 for not even a full bottle of Lagunitas IPA!
Yikes.

Matt Cain is a beast.

How long till 20 a pop.....5-7 years.  The funny thing is, they use taller skinnier cups to m,ake it appear that you're more than you are and most of the stuff on tap comes in watered down stadium kegs.  I'd rather pay 20 for a full pint of Lag IPA than get free anything on tap.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

I'm glad to see they got him signed - quality guy and pitcher.

Once again, the Giants outbid themselves. He's a great pitcher. And an absolute beast in terms of innings, consistency, reliability, etc. But...he's a sub-500 pitcher right now (69-73). It's easy to disregard that stat when you look at his other numbers. BUT...those are just stats too. How many of the 100M pitchers were sub-500 when they signed their respective contracts? It just makes me think other teams wouldn't have been so anxious to back up the Brinks truck for Cain once he hit the open market (especially if he has a sub par 2012...at which point, the Giants would've had serious bargaining leverage).
I'm glad they locked him up for 5 more yrs, and gave him a ton of money. Not sure if he will be a 20Mil pitcher in 2017 though.

I respectfully disagree. The only reason he is a sub 500 pitcher is because he plays for a team with no offense. If he pitched for the Phil's or yanks he would already have multiple 20+ win seasons. Matt Cain is a stud.

I hear ya Pat, always risky money betting on a pitcher.  And the size of the contracts is just obscene. That aside, I don't put much weight into Cain's sub-500 record.  Both he and Lincecum would be 20 game winners if they got even decent run support over the last few years. His ERA was under 3.00 last year, pitches alot of strong innings, and was money during the 2010 playoff/Series run.  I think the stat last year was something like when the Giants scored 3-4 runs a game their winning percentage was 80%. Frustrating as a fan, and says something about Cain's character that he didn't get so frustrated with his individual stats that he looked elsewhere.

Also cool to see the home grown talent stay local.  I miss the days when each team had more of an identity because they kept most key guys longer-term for most of their careers.  Made the rivalries more interesting when you could build up years of disdain for Garvey, Cey, Lasorda et. and other rejects in Dodger blue.  :smt003   :smt044

You're talkin about my Dodgers now!  Don't forget D. Baker an D Lopes if you're gonna be a hater!  Now that the boys in blue have a real owner and LAKER mouthpiece look out in about two years!

If the boys from Chavez Ravine don't take the NL West my Angels can always do what they did in 2002 with a guy named Soscia managing them!

Like I said two years for the Dodgers.  But with Albert who knows what the Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles might do!
