Tess, while in a fit of anxiety tried to tear the corner bead off the wall next to the front door. In doing so she broke off her top canine tooth on the upper left. has anyone had this happen before to their dog? I have heard of recent new practices in canine tooth repair but have no experience with that. No vets are open today, save the emergency, and Im not going there for this. Thanks, Craig

My wife the Vet says that if it is just a chip it can be fixed by polishing/grinding to take off the rough edge. If it is broken in half for instance it needs a root canal and to be capped.

Does she seem to be in any pain?
Although it may not be a common problem, this propably happens in the wild with canines gnawing on bones and taking down larger animals.
If she doesn't seem to be exhibiting any signs of real pain then I think waiting to see a vet until Monday would be fine.

Sorry to hear about your dog Craig. I can totally relate. Every time I am around you, I feel the urge to chew on walls also. :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

Yes Rob its snapped off right at the gum line. I called UC Davis vet clinic  and they are closed until Monday. Shjes not in real pain but that sucker is real tender to the touch. Them damn pit mixes could have a leg missing and still rally for the cause.

Jack............................ If you start foaming we have the cure.  :smt003 :smt006 :smt066

Berta says extraction is the only option. Sooner than later to prevent infection. I think Mon is alright. Hope all turns out ok.

Baby aspirin will help with the pain also. My vet used to tell me that was ok for dogs.

Our turkish shepherd broke both of his canines at the gum line.  Our vet recommended removal.
