Yes this falls under safety and piece of mind for any trip.  When I lived in Texas, driving around could be a 1400 (700 mile one way) mile road trip through some very sparse areas of Interstate 10.  Back then I had AAA Platinum coverage, because it was good for up to a 200 mile tow.  Now I may never need it, but once when I only had the Gold level, I need a tow and it only took me 100 miles.  Great right?  Wrong it was a 130 miles from home on a Harely with a flat.  I got let off at the 100 mile mark and had a friend pick me up. After that I upgraded to Platinum.  When I first moved here California AAA did not have Platinum coverage, now they do, and for the last two years I have had it.  I really haven't needed a tow that far, but is nice to know it is there.  I think of how far some of us drive for a fishing trip, and consider what could happen, and I am glad I don't have to worry about it.  I don't care if you go by AAA or anyone else, but look into it as some day you may need it.

Yep!   I renew my membership every year.  I spun a bearing on a boat trailer several years ago and without the Platinum membership, I wouldn't have been able to get the boat and trailer on a flatbead to a shop where the entire axle had to be replaced.  My 22 year old and his friends are constantly locking their keys in their cars and it's always my son's AAA card that comes to the rescue.  Pretty cheap peace of mind when traveling long distances.

Only time I've ever had to use mine was driving my aunt's vehicle back from a disneyland trip.  On hwy 5 just after dark, right around paso robles....aka middle of freakin nowhere.  Best insurance I've bought next to vessel assist.

I've also used their DMV services about 5 times now.....thats worth the price of membership alone.

Agreed!  AAA has saved my cheeks too many times to count.  Love that you can use it no matter who's busted ass ride it is!  Well worth the low cost.

So Platinum = 200 miles towing? I think I have Premium, which is 100. Sounds like I should upgrade.

Northen Cal AAA just started carrying Platinum a couple of years ago.  When I got my renewel notice that year, I immediately signed up and added GF to it.  So we are both covered for about $0.25 a day.  IMHO money very well spent.

AAA is worth every cent IMHO.  Premier 193.00 for wife and I. Can use for any vehicle, not just yours.  Sounds expensive until you need a 96 mi tow then six mos later a 197 mi tow. Coming home from my SWS dive super bowl weekend lost a couple of injectors.  (that's why you got lucky Bloodbath) Since I  now live in Nevada my truck had to be transferred from one flat bed to another at Truckee. This is due to most Ca. tow company's do not have DOT permits haul into Nevada.  Still professionally done and during a snow storm.  Actually not too much more than the extra paddle we keep for emergencies.  Money well spent.

Glad most have had a good experience with AAA. I have had them for 11 years, my dad 38 years. Towing my boat and camper to New Melones I blew the transmission on hwy 4. No big deal, call AAA, they would not come get my truck, boat or camper. Told me to call a commercial guy. I asked if I dropped the camper and had Boat US tow my boat and have them tow my F350, which I have had full coverage through them for 11 years. They still said no, call commercial.

Upon return home from the trip I canceled everything with them, they lost out on about $13,000 a year from me and four premium roadside member... I have since received a call from the VP of the Hayward and Walnut Creek offices asking what they could to for me to come back. My answer was "towed my truck". Thank you and good buy.

If you do sign up for AAA, take the time to look through all of the materials.  They have all sorts of member services and perks that you wouldn't think of without going through it.  The travel insurance is just one example.
