I recently started to look on the boards @ fishsniffer... can't say if it's the most up to date intel, but it's better than no preparation...

I usually PM bros who have local knowledge of the particular body of water I plan on fishing... and they all have provided very useful info.  It may not be recent intel, but very good general knowledge of the waters.

I've been using myoutdoorbuddy.com for reports, or talking to local tackle shops.

I usually use Google and click around a shitton on the interweb.  Local tackle shops are not necessarily to be trusted until you're friendly with the folks, otherwise you'll have a whole lotta potential useless gear in your box.

Generally speaking......the fish are in the same places, at the same time of year, eating the same stuff as last year, the year before and so on.  I'll go with what I know, make adjustments when I get there and continue to read reports for entertainment.......unless something breaks wide open or I'm interested in learning a new game, then I'll go with the flow.

PS....whats up with the weekly fishing report showing limits of rockcod in SC and salmon in sausalito.....they need an update  :smt003

Add to that, by the time you've read the report...it's too late.

Probably the most important website to check is the NOAA 'point specific' weather for the body of water you are interested in. For example here is the link to Berryessa. When you go on the page look for a link in the bottom right hand side. There are hourly weather graphs for the next six days. The wind graph is the most important. I always double check before I start the truck.

Excellent point Salty. Having just begun my kayak fishing endeavors, I will have to take more stock in the weather than I do with my big NorthRiver Seahawk. That said, I'm still thinking of a little rainy day action this afternoon as the winds pass.
Thanks for the tip.

Back in the day when I was a young sprout learning the ways of the hunter gatherer I would get really excited about seeing tracks of the game being pursued.
During this time an old Indian Chief that had taken me under his wing gave me this sage advice.
"the only fresh tracks you need to be concerned about are the ones the deer is standing in."
Same goes here, listen to what's happening from trusted people, learn your ways, spend time in the outdoors and go catch some fish!
"Try not. Do. Or do not.
  There is no try"
