When I'm lake fishing during the summer, I just wear a cheap pair of rain pants and cut 'em into shorts. Keeps my butt dry and I can still dip my legs in the water without scooping up water. I call it "DBS" = Dry Butt System  :smt002

I kind of do like Mooch except I don't want to cut off my Tempests so I wear them until like 9 or 10am and then strip down to the boardshorts when it's super hot on the lake.

As far as sweating goes it varies. If I'm trolling or covering long distances I will sometimes strip the wetsuit top down to the waist and pull a layer or two off my torso. I wear socks and underwear that carry the sweat away from my skin and stay very comfortable. Every once in a while you get an inbetween day on SF bay or the ocean where there isn't enough wind to cool you off and the air temp is over 75*. Then the tempest pants come off so I can dip my legs in the water to cool them. But if I'm in the Bay or Ocean I never take the farmer john all the way off. I have tried surfing in 50* water before. Didn't last long and don't want to experience that again.

Cool. Thank you. I had the opportunity to meet your mom and dad last year. I purchased my son a Emotion Spitfire from them. I always like to buy local (well, as long as I am treated well and the price is competitive). The price of the yak matched the price of the big dealers on line and they were real friendly and helpful. I did not think about asking them, Thanks again!  :smt001

If you do buy the Tempest pants, order it already with the relief zipper. I decided to put one on mine after it was purchased and the zipper alone almost cost as much as the pants itself. :smt011 Worth every penny though.

I've got the tempest pants with attached socks and have experienced the wet-foot phenomenon as well. I wear them in the ocean over my Farmer John and in FW I wear them when its cold over a pair of fleece pants. I think its sweat, not water that is the cause.

I cannot seem to find the article I was reading last night. It explained in technical terms why this happens. I will give you the grade school version because I don't remember the specifics, but it isnt sweat.
It has to do with the temperature of the water on the outside of the pants being so much different than the temperature on the inside of the pants. They are made to breathe but when the outside temp while submerged (legs in the water in the ocean) is a lot colder than the inside dry temp the breathing capacity of the material is greatly diminished and condensation builds up, not sweat.
I will find the article and bump it up beyond my grade school explanation.

JUST FOUND IT:

At the end of the day though, I've had my mysterioso socks drenched where I could ring them out.  That's an awful lot of sweat.
