So like two years ago, my neighbor drives off past my house and I notice she ( why else would I notice?) has a flat tire. I wave her down and attempt to change it. I jack it up, pull the wheel off, open the trunk to grab the spare....only no spare, just a bunch of machetes, rope, fire-starters and other weird stuff. "for when the zombies come" was her response absolutely serious. I never laughed so damned hard.

I think arming yourself with a shot gun or high caliber hand guns is great for close range but think about the recoil and amount you might have to shoot. Id get fatigued shooting too many zombies with a .44 or a 12 gauge. A .22 would work if you shot through the eye or a weak part of a skull ive heard of ppl getting shot in the head from a .22 and having the bullet travel around the skull under the skin with out penetrating into the brain. Id stick to a low recoil high rate of fire weapon with enough penetration for head shots a carbine would be nice  :smt070. As for a location id hide out in I would definitely look for an island location zombies cant swim and I dont believe that fish eating zombies would be a problem many diseases that effect humans and other mammals do not effect fishes especially sharks  :shark Sadly if its a parasite caused zombie Apocalypse then even fishes wouldnt be safe  :smt009  Heres a link to a real life fsih parasite study. Dont think the vids working but the descriptions is cool http://www.rockethub.com/projects/3737-support-zombie-research.

sadly you folks are preparing for one on one zombie defense.  I myself will check one of these out from the motor pool and will make my own evacuation route.

Not even Zombies will stop a Herc from its mission.  massive wave of Z's just run them down. Zombie appcolypse you say?  I say Herc with a belt fed grenadfe launcher and a M2 Heavy Barreled MG will get me where I need to go.  Run out of ammo, no problem just keep on trucking , or is that tracking...hmmm

Fuel, well that could be a problem

Mooch is the one that should be credited with the biggest thread jack in history.  I get a smile every time I open this one up.  I especially like the CDC link and my wife stole the babies/zombies comparison for her Facebook.  Great job jacking it guys, this thread that is.

I think preparing for attacks from multiple ranges makes sense.

Gerber makes the apocalypse kit for the short range stuff.
http://www.gerbergear.com/Apocalypse/Gear/Apocalypse-Kit_30-000601

Bow and arrow, shotgun, .22 for short range.
Here's a good choice for the .22

How about this for the 12 ga.  BigJim can even take it diving. If you surface and are confronted by zombies, you're all set.

And...of course there's my favorite for long range.

Here are some more practical long range stuff.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

I'm at work right now wondering if my taser would stop a zombie.

That would be fun to try!

I've got the shotty covered, semi-long range covered and the .22 covered.  Water covered.  Food? well I need to work on that.   As far as being safe on an Island,  I believe most of California's coast will fall off due to the "Big one"to become an island, so coastal defense for zombies shouldn't be an issue.

The sky is falling! THE SKY IS FALLING!!! Does snow slow hungry Zombies and killer viruses? Weimar has snow (just a bit) But it is snowing hard above colfax. To bad the weather is going to be in the mid to upper 60's this weekend and melt it all.
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Actually (I'm about to display my inner zombie nerd) this is covered in the book "world war Z". See, cells freeze so the zombies, while still undead, cannot move. So the populace in the northern states, high mountains, and Canada just get together in the late winter with their shovels and axes. It's only a problem when the weather warms up!

However, there is the Dead Snow phenomenon.........
