Here is the lure of choice at the Forebay (for casting and trolling)  / Discovered by Kick Fish Ken.

- I'm not sure what color Ken uses but I use the one with the black top, silver on the side and orange in the bottom + I replace the rear treble hook with a feather tail  :smt023

I've also had luck in the past trolling and casting the red and white rattle traps.

OK.....1. Joel does not clean fish or maybe does not want to get the fishy smell on his painted fingernails  2.  Joel girlfreinds are really dogs and get charge the $2 at the campsites. (only Bill will get this one).  3.  He ( Joel has some Jewish blood in him)...probably has the first dollar he ever stole.  4.  Will not fish for sturgoen because it is too boring for him.  5.  Can not cook or will not cook because his is a "Mommy Boy". 6. If he get a date...his Mom get him a limo and a room at the Ritz-Carlton in Half-Moon Bay.....

Hey Joel,

You know it all in fun.  I knew you were going to rat me out.  We (Fisherman) all have our secrets.  That is what maybe makes us a better fisherman than the other guy.

I won't tell the whole board the first trout you ever got was on a sabiki 5 hook bait catcher at a lake near Golden Gate Park.

The Lucky Craft Pointer Minnows...what size 3, 4 1/2 or 5 in. do you used?  Also, what colors do you used?

Give me a frickin' break!!!
I seriously don't fish can tell what brand you're using.  There are so many similar lures made by Lucky Craft, Smithwick, Rapala, Rebel, Bomber, Storm.   As long as it's about the same shape, size, color and it rattles and dives to the right depth.... I'm sure it will work all the same.  Also, so much depends on how you fish the lure -- fast, slow, and etc.

Why spend your hard earned money making fancy lure companies rich?

We all know that companies design lures to catch fishermen first... and fish second.

The reason we call it Ken's magic lure it that it seems like the fishing gods sent it down to him to help him and his fishing buddies catch fish.

The story as I hear it is that Ken was fishing Stephens Creek and he found this lure snagged on an old stump bathed in the soft glow of heavenly light. As he paddled closer he could hear the faint songs of angels singing "If you use it they will bite.."

Ken first gives the lure to me to try out at Del Valle (Devil?!?!? :smt077 ) and I get nothing. Ken keeps the faith and tries the lure on his next outing on Oniel Forebay and proceeds to slay them. Being the good fishermen he his he spreads his blessed lure around and we all catch fish.

All praise Ken, the messenger of the fishing gods!!!!

Joel,

You can look at it two ways.

1. Great fisherman (I think you know the two Japanese guys I am talking about) may not want to tell you their secerts because they know you will tell the world.  I think this is why they do not post that much.  If fact I think one does not post at all.
You have to watch what they are doing to learn.

2. You can tell everyone and everyone can be as good as you and they don't have to go though the learning curve.  But, only problem is that you learning curve will top out without the experts telling you what they do.

Hope you understand this.

I didnt meen to say that the lucky craft is a supiorior product or that it will really catch more fish than the smithwicks All I know is that the lucky craft is selling like crazy at the store that I work at.  I have not used it and I have used the smithwicks for bass.  most striper guys are either trying to imitate a rainbow trout or a shad so those are the hottest colors.

so your saying - I'm better off not sharing my secrets with the rest? I don't understand?

If I can help a newbie sellect a proven fishing lure - I would.

I'm not trying to better then everyone else. I don't fish to compete with other fisherman - unless of course I got paid for it.
