Never really thought about this before but if you catch a salmon and then decide to drift fish for buttes or rockfish on the way in and use bait I guess you have to use circle hooks?

Yep.  Once you land a salmon you are limited to barbless and I believe circle hooks unless trolling.

I think you can use a barbless j or siwash if your using an artificial like leadhead or diamond jig just don't tip it with any bait. I'll double check but I'm pretty sure on that.
