With the help from friends, as I get closer to becoming a true yak-dude: my own boat and vehicle to carry it, I'm planning trips. The first that I'd like to do is: a multi-day paddle through and over some of the levee systems that I haven't been able to get into. Figure I'd start off in vallejo and move toward napa,,,2 days and 1 night or 2 days and two nights.
Have any of you done it? Or, know where I might find some reliable info. I'm thinking a bivi for the night/s and it looks like I can jump from one levee to another. There sure is a lot of rarely fished water out there, and trust you/me, there's fish to be had in a good number of them.

Sounds like a good plan! I might have to join you. Looks like you are getting ready to put some good use to the old drifter.

I'll keep ya posted and Dr. let's do it. This tues I hit an area and lost count of fish to hand; they went 24 to 28 inches. My hand is bruzed and swolled from thumbing fish. Crazy, crazy and there's soooo many more spots to be discovered. Putting in the time, when it pays, it pays HUGE. :smt002

Too early to hit the sloughs.  Wait until late April and then again late September.
September is good at Napa by Kennedy Park.  Launch is by the golf course.

Shellback, yea out on tuesday. Most of my striper fishing is late night, not always, but the majority. I just walked in the door from another trip. Man, was it foggy out in the petaluma area, still warm and that's the key to this bite continuing.

Hey hightide, why is it too early? Are you referring to a specific fish or something unique to the sloughs? \

My goal is to get as far off the beaten path as possible, to get in as deep/remote as possible. To me, having owned a kayak now for a grand totall of two weeks, one of its best attributes is the fact that it can get into places other water crafts for fishing would never dare.

This girl took the circle deep, don't know how she did it. I was right on the hit. What the picture can't capture is the fact that from her gill plate, her head is off the ground. I'm still looking for that 36 to 38" mark

I guess you're right bro!  I was still in my bank fishing mode where I wait for the fish to come at a certain area at a certain time.  With the yaks now we don't have to wait, we can come to them. :smt003
Although I did have success fishing Napa close to the bridge in the Napa side in september.  There is a slough that intersect the Napa River that has been productive for me.  Hope to fish with you soon since we are in the same hood :smt003

Really interesting thread, keep us posted.  I've looked the area over on Google Earth but never actually ventured in there.

Stoked to hear that you got yourself a kayak! The fact that it can get into places other water crafts for fishing would never dare is one of many great attributes of owning a kayak :D

I always enjoy your fishing quests for stripers, while trying to learn more about em. I really learned much from all here :) Looking forward to hear how your quests go, sounds like lotsa fun!!

Hey Dale,

Here's my brain at work. Was thinking this last night

Normally, once my crystalized brain latches on to a theory, Reality has to take a sledge hammer to it before I'm free. Last night, I realized that when Luck shines it frees me. I didn't have a vested interest in being "right" and didn't care if I struck gold. So, I ventured towared types of water that normally I wouldn't fish. Sure enough, there were fish and they were feeding. 99% of the time, I'd of paddled right past, convinced that the spot "over there" was where they'd be feeding, even though, the 5 previous spots with the same conditions hadn't produced. Insanity or just plain stupid does the same damn thing but expects something different to happen. It's too bad that I too often end up saying, "See? I told ya they'd be here." And, no one slaps me across the head, screaming into my face. "You retard. It's been 6 hours; we've covered 100 miles of water; the sun has crossed half the sky; it's rained; the clouds came and went; you've gone through your entire box of shit. And, you think you were right?'

Money makes money. Catching fish makes catching fish. My keyboard is all messed up from drool while mapping out spots to fish from a yak. Let's get out and explore.

dpshim,
Bro, I wouldn't be thinking or doing any of this if not for the kindness of the people at ncka. For real

Vallejo Dave and I drifted the Napa river in the past and it's very enjoyable.  We might try it again this year.  Will let you know if we do.

Check the tides closely, as I almost got my aluminum boat stranded in a back slough, 99% of the bank is knee deep mud. Good luck, looking forward to an interesting report.
