Anybody tried it out?  I wonder how it affects water drainage.

I would be more concerned about breaking the transducer off, because it looks like it would stick out passed the hull...

Have you had any problem breaking the mount or knocking it out of place?

I've seen them installed on Hobie's and they fit perfectly in the grove.  You can have it installed and drag the yak on the ground without breaking off the transducer.

I'm thinking of installing it in one of the scuppers under my seat.

On this video, at 3:56 you will see that transducer is below the hull. Although, it is all depend on what kind of kayak and transducer you own.  I have ordered one yesterday and I can post some pictures whenever I install it.

I am not sure that's good idea.  I have taken water inside my Revo and it ends up at the bottom of the seat.  I've had to unscrew the drain plugs under the seat to let the water out so my butt won't be wet all day.

I've tried being OTW without Hobie drain plugs and water just come shooting up the seat.

I am planning to mount it at foot wells area. I think it will make the difference instead of mount it at seat wells area.

What do you do with the cable on the Hobie Outback with that installation ?

I would worry about getting hung up on heavy kelp. I think the rudder instalation is a better solution. You can also use PVC and make your own scupper mount and save $40

Based on the youtube video, I think I will pass on this.  Kayaks get dragged around a lot.

With the transducer sticking out like that and you hit a rock. You'd probably break it off, maybe even damage the scupper hole.

Picture below was my last trip at SWS where exposed rocks were plentiful.

Yeah, I agree with you that it will not work great if transducer is sticking out. My goal is to make sure hull is far below from where the transducer is. Originally I thought foot wells area will work better but I realized that hull isn't deep enough in that area. So I just installed it in the cockpit area. My transducer is really small so the hull is about 3/4" below. I don't think transducer will hit the rocks unless I tilt the kayak more to left side (where the transducer is) while I drag it.

Picture below is what it looks like when it is leveled. I will be at SS2 (Camp site # 39) & GS6 so feel free to take a look. Give me either  :thumbdown or

Does anyone know which depthfinder models/makes offer a circular shaped transducer instead of the skimmer design? Seems you could easily minimize how far the transducer sticks out if you had a circular face on the transducer.
