So I havent been out yet for salmon, and was wondering if anyone is working the coast between Pt. Reyes and Tomales?  Last year we were fishing around the 10 mile stretch but that was in summer.  Im guessing the Bodega groups are working the section but what about you guys?

Thanks!

I haven't heard of anybody fishing 10 mile yet.  Last year they were stacked up near shore there in July and many of the power boats out of Bodega would take advantage.   For us kayakers in Bodega, that's too much of a paddle and/or an hour+ long drive around Tomales bay to get there.

So far this season in the Bodega area it seems that the fish have been about 2-3 miles out anywhere between "the college" (actually the Bodega Marine Lab) and "the river" (again actually the mouth of the Russian River.)  I haven't been out yet myself (combination of wind and/or family obligations), but the early season isn't generally the best up here anyway so I'm waiting until June/July when the salmon traditionally get much closer to shore.

Thanks for the info.  Yeah last year was off the hook!  pardon the pun!.. haha..  but yes it would be a major pain for the yakers..  Do you think we will have season into summer?  ..   So im guessin the best place would be Duxbury or down in Pacifica.    I know it would be pushing it but I dont have a yak yet..  We would be launching out of Sausalito in an 18 foot Klamath..  Do you think that the journy would be too dangerous with the right conditions?

Thanks!

I have run my 16' Bayrunner out the GG a few times, best to do at slack tide return more so, after you round Pt. Bonita stay about a mile off shore and head north, the swell is not too bad, wind waves are the worst in a light boat. I wouldn't attempt in an under powered boat if it turns nasty you need plenty of power and fuel to get back. I've gone out and it was flat and just burned a few gallons going out and 15 on the way back in. If it starts blowing turn around and troll for home

Thanks guys!
I figured 10 mile might be a bit slow, but who knows, easier to get there from Tomales.
Just havent been through the gg yet..
