No expert, but I think SMB.  Was the eye a lil red?

Leaning towards Spotted but small chance it's a LMB.  Hard to tell the defining characteristics from those photos though.

Feel pretty confident that it isn't a Smallie though!

Hard to tell as it would take a better shot of the head and mouth to be sure.
My money would be on ... Spot

I vote smb. But I'm saying that based on color too...it c/b a spot. Definitely not a lmb based on the connected dorsals. What depth did you catch it and did you catch any other bass? Oh wait, I just realized spots are worth less pts than smb. So, yeah, I change my answer...definitely a spot! Hahahahaha

The horizontal stripe seems too defined. SMB have no horizontal stripe. This fish does. SPots show distinct small spotted stripes on the belly and SMB do not. SMB have vertical bars if they have any at all. SMB in general are more bronze and less green than this one too. Use this for reference too.

Do a search on bass Id and you will see how different the two actually look.

. Definitely not a lmb based on the connected dorsals.

Pat, that Fish in your avatar is 100% SMB. LMB have less connection than the other two in the dorsals. Notice the vertical striping.

Color is washed out, but with the white belly and line of spots down the side it is a spotted bass... That is how they look in Rollins lake too... Nice fish~!~!!! :smt006
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

the easyest way to tell if it's a spot is to rub it's tongue... they have small teeth that feels rough on their tongue

It's a hybrid between Spotted and Small Mouth called Small Spotted Mouth (SSM)  :smt005

The color looked a little bronzer on my phone. Looking at it on a computer screen, it definitely looks like a spot. Sorry Jeff  :smt110 But there are lots of SMB @ Berry--I caught my PB there @ 4lbs 12ozs north of the Spanish Flat marina. Probably over 22" but that was pre-yak.

LMB = soft tongue, jaw past eye, separated dorsals
Spot = rough tongue, jaw not past eye, connected dorsals
SMB = rough tongue, jaw not past eye, connected dorsals (with 2nd dorsal often bigger like the pic below)
