Well this technique may not catch lunkers, I find it to be great way to have fun.  I use a shirmp fly and pop it in small ponds.  Great for small bass and sunfish.  Lots of fun.

Jigs, Jigs, Jigs,
If you are lookin for quality bass, don't skip on the Jigs.
You can hop Jigs, crawl Jigs, swim Jigs, fall Jigs.
Learn to fish the jig and you will improve your catch.

See Ya Soon,
Eric / Yakhopper

RB, do you just soak it or do you anything to impart further action, twitch, retrieve? Thanks in advance, I'm Bass illiterate.

The beauty of minnows is that they do all the work!  That said, unless I've marked fish that I'm targeting, I usually slow troll them.

Now we are talking my favorite kind of fishing. There are lots of ways to fish for bass but my favorite is fishing the dirty delta water or a lake that has a lot of boating traffic. Boating traffic you say? Yes I believe it makes for better fishing. The fish live in it all the time right they get used to it.
I use it for camouflage. The waves make the water dirty and I hide in it the bass don't even know I am there. I really like fishing soft plastics from creature baits to worms of all sizes. In the spring I will try to target the large females. I do catch and release my bass also. which is one reason I do not like to use minnows for fishing for bass. About minnows, have you noticed that the bass will take down a minnow and you wont even know it sometimes until you feel the weight of the fish well by that time its to late the hook is stuck in there throat or in there stomach and by that time the fish will most likely die. So I wont use minnows for bass I told you I catch and release my bass. Well I guess what ever technique I am using at the time will depend on the type of water and the season what size of natural food is available thats a place to start to help you decide what you are going to do. You mention speed traps that a great shallow running fish getter I caught my largest bass with that in a crawdad red with vertical black stripes she was 10.5 lbs I got her in the delta in two feet of water. No one mention buzzbaits those are fun to use and its more top water action like frogs and poppers great summer time and fall time fun. Eric mention jigs those are great year round and there a lot of types of jigs. But jigging is a style, you can jig most anything I have done it with spoons, pig and jigs, spinner baits, worms and others. Also besides drop shot have you tried a nail weight. You put a weight in a floating plastic worm in its head and about the middle put a live bait hook about the middle of the worm and it stands on its head and the tail will float up it work really well in lakes with weeds on the bottom. They see that tail moving around and wham fish on.
Well if you want to be a good bass fisherman there are lot of ways to skin that cat. Speak of cats use cranks baits on Clear lake you will catch bass and cats.

Thats if for now
Kevin

1/0 circle hooks will 99% of the time get stuck on the lip. Totally unlike some bass I ve caught that are dragging around 2 creature baits stuck in the throat down into the stomach. Ive caught bass with fishing line coming out of the anal opening with a hook stuck inside. You may be a top notch bassman but dont give out misinformation about minnow fishing. Ive also caught huge cats at CL using live minnows on the same rig. All, I repeat all, caught on the lip. Like a circle hook is meant to. Thats why there are some restrictions as to using circle hooks only because the fish DONT swallow them.

First of all, Thanks everyone for chiming in..this post is not intended to degrade or to discredit anyones technique this is to have newbies that never had any luck in bass fishing..Kevin..I love the technique you have, I caught bass using dropshots weight 10.3, I also caught fish using Minnow..ranges 5-7 lbs, I never kept bass..however I noticed no matter what method you are using it all depends on the aggressiveness of the bass thats what causing the hook on the guts, not because you are using minnow, just my 2 cents, I love using crank bait cause it never gets there!!!

Cool Darius. Last year I cught some nice bass on a craw lipless crank by some anchored boats. I was throwing out past the boats thinking that they might be in the shade of the boat and when it passed the shaded area . Blam fish on. Sounds like some deep diving cranks might work at Berry in the Shad colorations. Although the fish we caught there the last 2 weeks in Dec were real sluggish.

Being in the business,
I have seen most every technique avail to catch bass. Of all the techniques, I prefer to adapt a jig as much as possible. There are plenty of ways to catch bass, but its always best to do what you have confidence in.

Spinnerbaits are my confidence baits.. a 3/8 oz Rodstrainer in Chart/white with white/Chart willow blades to be exact. for any kind of dirty/stained water all year long.  in the winter it's Texas rigged lizards/ craws.. For the summer it's Speedtraps in bait fish colors for clearer water. then spinnerbaits, texas rigged plastics.
If I'm skunking I'll pull out the senko.... those lil turds always catch a fish.

Well, i'm inspired to give Jigs a shot then this year!  I've lost most of them, even with the little wire guard, always seem to get snagged.  But i'll try try again and hopefully hook something with one this year!  :smt002

On the topic of spinnerbaits, my impression is they were only good for fairly active bass, and usually used as sort of a search bait?  Haven't hooked up on one of those either, but will be trying again this year!  Actually think I might try them on the salt this year too.    :smt004
