Update on Russian River Adult coho salmon returns

Just an update on adult Coho salmon returns on the Russian River, so far as of 12/13/11:  87 adult coho salmon!

This count comes from SCWA's video monitoring on their fish ladders below Wohler bridge.  A lot of the main coho spawning tributaries are below Wohler bridge so this is only a minimum count and there are more fish likely holding in the mainstem waiting for rain to even enter the tributaries.  Please remember to check your catch as most of the coho salmon returning have adipose clips as part of the broodstock hatchery program.  (The only 100% ID for coho is the the white gumline on the lower jaw, sometimes gray but not black, also a black "tongue".)  At this time last year we had 25 adult coho salmon, so things are continuing to look up for Russian River coho salmon. (Remember there were only 2 returning adult coho salmon to the entire Russian River 5 years ago!
