So I'm going to go diving tomorrow. I haven't been out in a few months. Since then I dropped some weight and went from 225 pounds, down to a more comfortable 191. So lost about 34 pounds... Im about 6'2"

So I am wondering how this is going to affect how much weight I have on my belt?
Not even sure whats on there, but what is a good starting point?

Thanks!

Congrats on the loss! And yes, it should affect your buoyancy.

With a 7mm suit, a good starting point is 10% of your weight, + 5 pounds. It depends on a number of factors though, like body composition, the suit you have, and the depth you plan to dive. For deeper diving, remove weight. For diving the shallows, add weight so you can stay down even in surge.

I'd say start out with 24-25 pounds to be in a good range.

16 lbs. I'm 185 and 6' 2". That's what I use for 20-40' dives. Start there and bring an extra 2 lbs or so to throw on if you need

Ha now I'm sure you're confused. Bring enough to experiment a little :)

That's with your Riffe open cell suit, though. I think Brent has a closed-cell scuba suit, if I'm not mistaken, and those generally require more lead.

Depth is another factor. If Brent hasn't gone diving for a while, I would assume he'd work the shallows until he readjusts to it again, and would probably need some extra lead.

Rick,

Thanks man, 13 years of sitting behind a Mac in the office got me fatter then Ive ever been :) Got laid off, so im not at the desk. But found out I have high blood sugars, so with that I changed my entire diet amd exercise program. I'm peddaling on mile 20 in my living room right now :) Back to my healthy weight.

So yeah Ill be staying shallow, its been a while and my body will be adjusting, also im still adjusting to a low carb diet, so Im gonna take it slow forsure....

your correct, i have a closed cell.
