Looking at having a smaller event with the warrior transition unit on of these dates at Rancho Sanko...

I'm sure I spelled that wrong...  can some of you who have fished that lake and know what's going on there chime in on what we might need to do fishing wise and logistics...

bathrooms, parking to lake, launching, picnic area, county or state park, etc...

 Thanks

Gets real windy there in the early afternoon. No real fishing experience there though.

I would suggest the Forebay, although i believe now they require kayak inspection which makes it a little more challenging.  The group site there has lots of room, bathrooms that are nice and clean, and even power at the covered pick-nick areas.  Although there are possibly a bit more boats on the water starting up in June, earlier in the year it's pretty much deserted.

Just remember not to sit too close to the fire in the evening when somebody decides to burn tumbleweed.  :smt003

Rancho Seco is a better lake in the early spring or fall when they are still planting trout.  the rest of the year its a bass lake and a bit of a PITA

It's hot out there during this time of the year and for this lake you'll want to fish with mono or fluorocarbon line since the water is clear.  I think the best time for this lake would be Spring. I'm not sure if it's a City park that own's it while Operated by SMUD, but sure you could get more info here...http://www.cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation/links.htm

What about Mather Lake?

Too many weeds to deal with after about march-April. It's not free. 5 or so to park. Small trout like lures work for bass when they stock.

Thanks Guys...

our situation with this is...  afternoon event, about 15 or so warrior transition unit, wounded active duty that will join us after events scheduled for the morning...

we need to be close to the sacramento area to make this feasible ...

I do believe these participants will be fairly mobile and no special equipment needed...

with those parameters, what do ya guys think?

Sounds Good!

How about Folsom Lake?  I know they have good bass fishing there, though I don't fish there but I'm sure some of the guys could chime in on this.

Rancho Seco lake is good for evening/early morning fishing for largemouth bass in the summer. This is my favorite place to fish from a kayak or canoe (gas engines are not allowed). With a big group like yours, you should reserve a group campsite (do this way in advance) to access the lake after hours as gate is closed at 5 PM. Spacious, plenty of parking, ok restrooms, and good docks to fish from for those who don't have a boat. Yes, it's windy in the afternoon but that's what cool the place down in the evening. It can be quite hot there in the summer.
