My first King!

Bolete that is! This was just a great specimen. Plucked it for identification purposes only.

My friend in the fungus society came by, it is a king bolete!

I heard it doesnt taste very good! Better turn it over to me for further analisis!

I seriously need to get into this. I see lots of different types on the trials on the mountain, but I'm too sketched to even touch them. I'm putting it down as a 'fishing" goal for 2012.

exactly. It's happened twice this season that I know of

But there are a few field courses with real world ID here in SC. I just missed one last weekend, but I'll make it a point to attend one within the next year. I really only need to have a positive ID on a couple of the yummiest ones. I can ID a lions mane now, but that's the only one so far!
