Really like to go before the season is over but don't like what I see in the forecasts. After a five hour drive, Sacramento syndrome gonna kick in and I wouldn't settle for just having lunch and drive back. Does any body know what's the visibility is like out there in the Mendocino/Ft Bragg area?

Shellback and I will be headed up there tomorrow early from San Ramon.  As you say, it could be a long lunch hour, but gonna check out a few protected coves with DaveW to see if conditions are dive-able tomorrow.

I dove Russian Gulch a few times before and it is well protected from the north swells, just what we need on days like tomorrow. My buddy and I are planning on being in the water by 10 AM. Company welcome.

Russian Gulch is loaded with great protection from da swell. No big'ns, but loaded with fat keepers.

Good luck and be safe!

Good luck tomorrow.  The Agate cove web cam looks like a N. swell.  With the forecasted wind I'd leave everything on shore and just jump in with a ab stringer.

Come on up!  Season Finale is tomorrow.,  I am still at Albion #19.  Joe and Mike left yesterday PM  after Joe cooked up cab/ling blackbean sauce/ginger over rice  :smt044

Today 4-6,mod wind ,bumpy but fun, vis 6-8 , 8 + when sun pops out,  clouds O'Saoilor Jerry in Afternoon.    Went south at VD and met some other old guys (55+) from Auburn/Cool area. Abs no 9s but nothing under 8.75,and fatttyyys  Speared dinner,  ate Cab and sea trout for dinner solo next to the campfire.

Company is always nice on Closer.  Have extra yak if needed.  Come on up an pop last day abs, spear a fish and share a wee bit o' sailor jerry.  Sorry no vd gopro died (flooded).  Tech hint: do not use couscous instead of rice.....  :smt005 :smt010 :smt005.

Went up to Albion with solsrf1 for the abalone closer but, made a stop at Timber Cove to do some fishing. Arrived at Timber Cove around 10 am, 3 knot winds or less, fishing was consistent. Saw Raydon out there with an impressive stringer, looks like the halloween big hammers was the trick for him. Solsrf1 pulled a ling on the reel up, 24". I plucked a cabezon and a couple gophers for dinner :smt001 We then worked our way to albion. Met up with desertdiver and paddled out for some action. The water was not perfect but doable. Biggest ab was 9 1/2" chunker. This was a great end to the 2011 abalone season. Great friends and goodtimes! Hope you got some Russ.
Enjoy video.
