I have not sold on eBay for a while and just realized what kind of fees they charge. 9% final value on the sale fee. Listing fees, reserve fees. Ok I understand these, but charging me a fee on the shipping price too. That is total BS. I do not mark up my shipping like so many sellers do. Some charge very high prices. I don't believe in charging more than it costs, and I say that in my ads. Now I need to charge another 9% above and beyond what it actually costs to ship. This shipping deal seems like it should be illegal.

Any comments?

OCCUPY !!

Seriously, if you dont like what they do... stop dealing with them.  Companys that take advantage of customers, should not have customers.

this may or may not help you.

I have some thoughts...  this comes from doing a fair bit of buying and selling online...

On one hand, it's screwed...  On top of what you mentioned there are Paypal fees!

On the other hand, Ebay put a lot of money and time into making it what it is, (THE premier online auction site, a household word, amazing, really, it changed the world).

If you try dealing with Craigslist and flakey buyers then Ebay fees don't seem so bad.

Devils Advocate:

I want a site that is as efficient and effective as eBay while drawing the same numbers of viewers daily, but I want it for free.

Reality:

eBay is the best at what they do for reason.  They invest heavily in their product to continually make it better.  9% on the top is considerably less than most "stores" make on each transaction.

I just sold a heavy piece for $1. It only got the opening bid. It cost let's say $10 to ship. At even only 9% before listing and paypal I made $ .01. They made $.99 plus  paypal, if i got to list for free, which has been the case. Who won?  This is just a made up transaction.
I understand they made a great place to sell stuff. I have been honest in my shipping expenses. I realize it is the people that were selling for $1 and shipping for $100 trying to avoid the only 3-5% fee there used to be. It just burns my ass that I've spent around $50 to make 350 on stuff I paid $500 for. I know, used parts are only 1/2 price. I've never had a problem selling on CL though.

I'm sorry about the ranting I'm doing. I just have some small stuff laying around i hate to see get waisted or end up in the landfill. I  figure people could uSe some of these things and if they covered the shipping I would send it. Now it just costs me $$ to deal with it.  The rest is just going in the trash because it is not worth my time to make a buck or two while they make all of it. I will list a couple more large items. I already know they cost $34 to ship, so the buyer will be paying the extra 9% added in as handling. now it will cost them 37+. I am in no way against companies making a profit, just not on stuff like shipping. There is a reason it is against the law to charge tax on shipping and labor. Sorry, now the rant is over.

I haven't oldon ebay in forever, didnt realize the fees are up that high now....doesnt seem right that they charge on what you ask for shipping.....hmmm

I used to like CL, but had so many flakes and bogus emails when I was trying to sell that I vowed never to sell anything there again.

Ebay was cool before it became a storefront for home businesses. Its not an auction site anymore, just another version of Amazon.

I've used craigs extensively and although I've had to deal with a couple jackasses my transactions have been smooth. However, I have no problem baiting scammers into long, time wasting email chains.......its almost like fishing  :smt003
