I'm a beginning Kayak Angler, looking for a little insight from more experienced veterans...

The question is regarding Hatch Bags for the Large Front Hatch - specifically for an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13...

Most of the bags I see online are for the small center console hatch (6 inches, and very shallow). Are there any similar bags that fit the Large Front Hatch (Large Oval shape) for storage of fresh catches - something I can throw Ice in & load fish in as they're caught vs. the 'keep cool' bags that strap to the top of the Kayak?

If something like this doesn't exist, any creative/custom ideas for a large bag (something stronger than a heavy-duty construction garbage bag!?) that can be secured around the opening of the large oval front hatch and used like an ice-chest? Thanks...

I know of no such bag that is made to fit inside the front hatch of a P13. You can try making such a bag using a heavy duty dry bag. Those fish spines can be sharp!

I paddle a P13, and as stable as it is, I would not recommend crawling up to the bow and opening the front hatch every time you land a fish. The hatch opening is rather large, and if you are sitting on the bow when a wave hits you, the kayak will flood and you will be going for a swim.

I keep my fishes on game clips in the rear tank well. But if you insist on putting the fish on ice, strap a cooler in the tank well.

I would just keep the fish on the rear tank well and cover 'em with a burlap sack. Then use your paddle to splash water on the sack to keep your catch cool every chance you get - especially on a hot day.

* learn to side saddle your yak and get comfortable doing it. I don't recommend anyone trying to put fish on the rear tank well and not side saddle - especially with a heavy stringer of fish.
